GOOD FRIDAY

Freedom in the Promised Land. The Passover in Jerusalem was special. His time had come.
Now the Festival of Unleavened Bread arrived, when the Passover lamb is sacrificed. Jesus sent Peter and John ahead and said, "Go and prepare the Passover meal, so we can eat it together." "Where do you want us to prepare it?" they asked him. He replied, "As soon as you enter Jerusalem, a man carrying a pitcher of water will meet you. Follow him. At the house he enters,  say to the owner, 'The Teacher asks: Where is the guest room where I can eat the Passover meal with my disciples?'  He will take you upstairs to a large room that is already set up. That is where you should prepare our meal."  They went off to the city and found everything just as Jesus had said, and they prepared the Passover meal there. When the time came, Jesus and the apostles sat down together at the table.  Jesus said, "I have been very eager to eat this Passover meal with you before my suffering begins.  For I tell you now that I won't eat this meal again until its meaning is fulfilled in the Kingdom of God." Then he took a cup of wine and gave thanks to God for it. Then he said, "Take this and share it among yourselves.  For I will not drink wine again until the Kingdom of God has come." He took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, "This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me." After supper he took another cup of wine and said, "This cup is the new covenant between God and his people—an agreement confirmed with my blood, which is poured out as a sacrifice for you. "But here at this table, sitting among us as a friend, is the man who will betray me.  For it has been determined that the Son of Man must die. But what sorrow awaits the one who betrays him."
Luke 22:7‭-‬22 NLT

Communion

On the way, Jesus told them, "Tonight all of you will desert me. For the Scriptures say, 'God will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.' But after I have been raised from the dead, I will go ahead of you to Galilee and meet you there." Peter declared, "Even if everyone else deserts you, I will never desert you." Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, Peter—this very night, before the rooster crows, you will deny three times that you even know me." "No!" Peter insisted. "Even if I have to die with you, I will never deny you!" And all the other disciples vowed the same. Then Jesus went with them to the olive grove called Gethsemane, and he said, "Sit here while I go over there to pray."  And even as Jesus said this, Judas, one of the twelve disciples, arrived with a crowd of men armed with swords and clubs. They had been sent by the leading priests and elders of the people. Jesus said, "My friend, go ahead and do what you have come for." Then the others grabbed Jesus and arrested him. "Put away your sword," Jesus told him. "Those who use the sword will die by the sword.  Don't you realize that I could ask my Father for thousands of angels to protect us, and he would send them instantly?  But this is all happening to fulfill the words of the prophets as recorded in the Scriptures." At that point, all the disciples deserted him and fled.
Matthew 26:31‭-‬36‭, ‬47‭, ‬50‭-‬50‭, ‬52‭-‬53‭, ‬56 NLT

Each of us will make decisions. Jesus is standing on trial still. What will you do with Jesus?

Jesus is standing in Pilate's hall,
friendless, forsaken, betrayed by all;
hearken! what meaneth the sudden call?
What will you do with Jesus?

Refrain:
What will you do with Jesus?
Neutral you cannot be;
Some day your heart will be asking,
"What will he do with me?"

Jesus is standing on trial still,
you can be false to him if you will,
you can be faithful through good or ill.
What will you do with Jesus? Refrain

That's just wrong. There are many things in that category. Lust. Unforgiveness. Jesus's crucifixion.

He took all the wrongs. He sees our brokenness. Our pain.
We must allow him to make things right.
All to Jesus I surrender.

Then they bound him, led him away, and took him to Pilate, the Roman governor. When Judas, who had betrayed him, realized that Jesus had been condemned to die, he was filled with remorse. So he took the thirty pieces of silver back to the leading priests and the elders. The leading priests picked up the coins. "It wouldn't be right to put this money in the Temple treasury," they said, "since it was payment for murder."  After some discussion they finally decided to buy the potter's field, and they made it into a cemetery for foreigners. That is why the field is still called the Field of Blood. This fulfilled the prophecy of Jeremiah that says, "They took the thirty pieces of silver— the price at which he was valued by the people of Israel, and purchased the potter's field, as the Lord directed. "
Matthew 27:2‭-‬3‭, ‬6‭-‬10 NLT

Falling into the water does not drown people staying under does.
You may have sinned and suffer the consequences but you don't have to stay there. Peter repented. Judas was sorry but not willing to repent and walk in truth.
Jesus changes everything. You don't want to miss him.

In Pilate's hall He stands betrayed

The soldiers wove a crown of thorns and put it on his head, and they put a purple robe on him. "Hail! King of the Jews!" they mocked, as they slapped him across the face. Pilate went outside again and said to the people, "I am going to bring him out to you now, but understand clearly that I find him not guilty." Then Jesus came out wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. And Pilate said, "Look, here is the man!" When they saw him, the leading priests and Temple guards began shouting, "Crucify him! Crucify him!" "Take him yourselves and crucify him," Pilate said. "I find him not guilty." The Jewish leaders replied, "By our law he ought to die because he called himself the Son of God." When Pilate heard this, he was more frightened than ever. Then Jesus said, "You would have no power over me at all unless it were given to you from above. So the one who handed me over to you has the greater sin." Then Pilate tried to release him, but the Jewish leaders shouted, "If you release this man, you are no 'friend of Caesar.' Anyone who declares himself a king is a rebel against Caesar." "Away with him," they yelled. "Away with him! Crucify him!" "What? Crucify your king?" Pilate asked. "We have no king but Caesar," the leading priests shouted back. Then Pilate turned Jesus over to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus away.
John 19:2‭-‬8‭, ‬11‭-‬12‭, ‬15‭-‬16 NLT

The man sentenced for crucifiction would have to drag his cross. If he did not die from his injuries he would die of suffocation.
Every sin has to be paid. Jesus took our place.

Your blood ran down
From Your head down Your face
From Your hands to Your feet
Your blood ran down for me
From Your head down Your face
From Your hands to Your feet
Your blood ran down
Your blood ran down
Your blood ran down for me

Carrying the cross by himself, he went to the place called Place of the Skull (in Hebrew, Golgotha ). And Pilate posted a sign on the cross that read, "Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews." When the soldiers had crucified Jesus, they divided his clothes among the four of them. They also took his robe, but it was seamless, woven in one piece from top to bottom. So they said, "Rather than tearing it apart, let's throw dice for it." This fulfilled the Scripture that says, "They divided my garments among themselves and threw dice for my clothing." So that is what they did. When Jesus saw his mother standing there beside the disciple he loved, he said to her, "Dear woman, here is your son."  And he said to this disciple, "Here is your mother." And from then on this disciple took her into his home.
John 19:17‭, ‬19‭-‬19‭, ‬23‭-‬24‭, ‬26‭-‬27 NLT

Jesus knew that his mission was now finished, and to fulfill Scripture he said, "I am thirsty."  When Jesus had tasted it, he said, "It is finished!" Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
John 19:28‭, ‬30 NLT

Sin had left a crimson stain. He washed it white as snow. Jesus paid it all.

Our sin distorts the picture of a loving God.

Breathe in the grace of God and breathe out the praise of God.
It's there in the newborn cry
It's there in the light of every sunrise
It's there in the shadows of this light
Your great grace
It's there on the mountaintop
It's there in the everyday and the mundane
There in the sorrow and the dancing
Your great grace
Oh, such grace
From the creation to the cross
Then from the cross into eternity
Your grace finds me
Yes, Your grace finds me
It's there on a wedding day
There in the weeping by the graveside
There in the very breath we breathe
Your great grace
Same for the rich and poor
Same for the saint and for the sinner
Enough for this whole wide world
Your great grace
Oh, such grace
From the creation to the cross
Then from the cross into eternity
Your grace finds me
Yes, Your grace finds me
There in the darkest night of the soul
There in the sweetest songs of victory
Your grace finds me
Yes, Your grace finds me
Your great grace
Oh, such grace
Your great grace
Oh, such grace
So I'm breathing in Your grace
And I'm breathing out Your praise
I'm breathing in Your grace
Forever I'll be
Breathing in Your grace
And I'm breathing out Your praise
I'm breathing in Your grace
And I'm breathing out Your praise
Breathing in Your grace
For our God, for our God
Yes, Your grace finds me
Yes, Your grace finds me

Duct tape has thousands of uses. The Holy Week has all the repair qualities. But Jesus is not duct tape. Jesus died for us. You must love the Lord your God and your neighbour. Jesus gave us new life with purpose.

Jesus prophesied the destruction of the temple. You'll be arrested and hated. Endure to the end. There will be anguish. If someone tells you there is the Messiah don't bother looking. When the Messiah comes again everyone will see him. No one knows when this will be.

Homeowners never know when a thief is coming, and they are always on guard to keep one from breaking in. Always be ready! You don't know when the Son of Man will come.
Matthew 24:43‭-‬44 CEV

Today we can experience the hope and joy of Jesus. Without Jesus you will face judgement. A warning.
This is written so you may believe.
O come to the alter.
Are you hurting and broken within?
Overwhelmed by the weight of your sin?
Jesus is calling
Have you come to the end of yourself
Do you thirst for a drink from the well?
Jesus is calling
O come to the altar
The Father's arms are open wide
Forgiveness was bought with
The precious blood of Jesus Christ
Leave behind your regrets and mistakes
Come today there's no reason to wait
Jesus is calling
Bring your sorrows and trade them for joy
From the ashes a new life is born
Jesus is calling
O come to the altar
The Father's arms are open wide
Forgiveness was bought with
The precious blood of Jesus Christ
O come to the altar
The Father's arms are open wide
Forgiveness was bought with
The precious blood of Jesus Christ
Oh what a savior
Isn't He wonderful?
Sing hallelujah,

Jesus is calling
When Jesus had finished teaching, he told his disciples, "You know two days from now will be Passover. This is when the Son of Man will be handed over to his enemies and nailed to a cross."
Matthew 26:1‭-‬2 CEV

Have you seen common sense fail? We could have sold this perfume for a lot of money and given it to the poor."

Desert Song

[Verse 1:]
This is my prayer in the desert
When all that's within me feels dry
This is my prayer in my hunger and need
My God is the God who provides

[Verse 2:]
And this is my prayer in the fire
In weakness or trial or pain
There is a faith proved
Of more worth than gold
So refine me, Lord, through the flame

[Chorus:]
And I will bring praise
I will bring praise
No weapon formed against me shall remain
I will rejoice
I will declare
God is my victory and He is here

[Verse 3:]
And this is my prayer in the battle
When triumph is still on its way
I am a conqueror and co-heir with Christ
So firm on His promise I'll stand

[Chorus:]
And I will bring praise
I will bring praise
No weapon formed against me shall remain
I will rejoice
I will declare
God is my victory and He is here

[Bridge 4x:]
All of my life
In every season
You are still God
I have a reason to sing
I have a reason to worship

[Chorus 2x:]
And I will bring praise
I will bring praise
No weapon formed against me shall remain
I will rejoice
I will declare
God is my victory and He is here

[Verse 4:]
This is my prayer in the harvest
When favor and providence flow
I know I'm filled to be emptied again
The seed I've received I will sow

Mission key word witness
Acts 1.8
What's a witness? Someone who says I know this to be true.

But I promise you this—the Holy Spirit will come upon you and you will be filled with power.[k] And you will be my messengers[l] to Jerusalem, throughout Judea, the distant provinces[m]even to the remotest places on earth!"[n]

Witness here is martyr.

Love is God's divine DNA. Bruxy Cavey.

Jesus says all authority. Make disciples who make disciples. Teach them to obey.

Leading people to Christ and on to maturity in Christ.

Called to oneness

John 17

That they would be one.

While I was with these that you have given me,[k]
I have kept them safe by your name that you have given me.
Not one of them is lost,
except the one that was destined to be lost,[l]
so that the Scripture would be fulfilled.
13 "But now I am returning to you so Father,
I pray[m] that they will experience
and enter into my joyous delight in you[n]
so that it is fulfilled in them and overflows.
14 I have given them your message
and that is why the unbelieving world hates them.
For their allegiance is no longer to this world
because I am not of this world.
15 I am not asking that you remove them from the world,
but I ask that you guard their hearts from evil,[o]

That the world would know they are in me. That's where the Mission starts.

Be a witness. Reflect. Are you in oneness?

Move from belief to life in the resurrection. Participate in the body.

Can we be a Church to make disciples? In love with Jesus?

John Dodsworth www.EasTview.org
The nature of the church
The disciples were devoted to the teachings of the apostles, to fellowship, to the breaking of bread, and to prayer. All the believers kept meeting together, and they shared everything with each other. At the same time, they praised God and had the good will of all the people. Every day the Lord saved people, and they were added to the group.
Acts 2:42‭, ‬44‭-‬44‭, ‬47 GW
The church membered want the church to serve me.

Because of the kindness that God has shown me, I ask you not to think of yourselves more highly than you should. Instead, your thoughts should lead you to use good judgment based on what God has given each of you as believers. Our bodies have many parts, but these parts don't all do the same thing. If it is encouraging others, devote yourself to giving encouragement. If it is sharing, be generous. If it is leadership, lead enthusiastically. If it is helping people in need, help them cheerfully.
Romans 12:3‭-‬4‭, ‬8 GW

Paul is calling the church to share again.

Look at what God is doing in you.  We are members of one another. A living body.
Many parts.

Recently had loss of vision  in onr until someone prayed for me and the eye was instantly healed.

CHARISMATA = gifts of the Holy Spirit. We have a role to play.

You may have a gift to do something but you have to get more training to develop the gift.

We are gifted with something that is to be used in the body. Are you aware of the gifts God has given you? Get out of your chair joyfully not because of guilt.

Join a Life Group. You are not meant to do it alone.
Ryan is putting a maintenance team together. Consider joining him. There are all kinds of volunteer positions you can fill. Bring unity in diversity in the church. We will never be perfect but the church has the Holy Spirit to be witnesses to the wider community.
