Jesus the Messiah

What does life look like after the Messiah arrived?
Johnnie Dodsworth www.EasTview.org
Put together a 1000 PC puzzle and one piece was missing. Very disturbing. We want completeness.
We know the Messiah is Jesus.
1. Genesis 3.14 he will crush your head you Satan will strike his heel
2. Jeremiah 33.15 a branch will sprout from David
3. Isaiah 40.3 get ready for John the Baptist to prepare the way for messiah
4. Isaiah 53.5 healed by his wounds. So we can have peace
5. Micah 5.2 Bethlehem from you will come the ruler from ancient times
6. Isaiah 9.6 mighty God comes to restore relationship YWEH is the Lord.
This is right on the mark for who Jesus was. His kingdom will have no end. He is Emmanuel God with us.
We are his body as a church. To bring peace. He invites us to participate in life.
What does life look like with him?
John 17 a glimpse at the heart of the Messiah. Read the whole chapter.

I am not praying just for these followers. I am also praying for everyone else who will have faith because of what my followers will say about me. I want all of them to be one with each other, just as I am one with you and you are one with me. I also want them to be one with us. Then the people of this world will believe that you sent me.  I have honored my followers in the same way you honored me, in order that they may be one with each other, just as we are one. I am one with them, and you are one with me, so they may become completely one. Then this world's people will know that you sent me. They will know that you love my followers as much as you love me.
John 17:20‭-‬23 CEV

The truth of the gospel is to be made known. Have unity with one another. Amazing prayer by Jesus!
Christ is the head of this body.
The way for restoration is made.
What have you done with with the invitation.

Pray as Jesus prayed for oneness. Let our community see the Messiah in us.

Communion is a symbol to remind us of the what Christ did for us.
Unity and community are part of this.

God with us

One day God did become one of us. Emmanuel God With Us. God manifest in the flesh. Sometimes we miss the magnificence of this truth. That God has come down to be one of us.
Not some spiritual personality but a real person. Like the one that you just looked in the eye. God becoming flesh.
Writer after writer has come to the importance of this truth.
The God Who created everything became a man of particular height. Before that he was a baby and before that he was a fetus.
The coming of Jesus Christ into this world represents truth more profound than any philosophy. All the great philosophers of this world could not have produced a story like this.
All mankind has been sitting in darkness and has been visited by the light of the world. The father of all Mercies has come to be at the mercy of the created.
God has become one of his own creatures. The God of the universe imploded to become a peasant baby. Like every infant that has ever learned to talk and walk then dress himself.
Men's maker was made man. That the ruler of the Stars might nurse at his mother's breast. That the bread might hunger and the fountain be thirsty. God the light might sleep and get tired on his journey.

Christmas Carol Quiz

Delbert Enns www.EasTview.org
Oh little town of Bethlehem
You want a large gift or small gift?
Big and Better go hand in hand. Small gifts create more lasting joy.
Micah gave us a small details prophesy of Jesus. The micro.

Bethlehem Ephrath, you are one of the smallest towns in the nation of Judah. But the Lord will choose one of your people to rule the nation— someone whose family goes back to ancient times.  Like a shepherd taking care of his sheep, this ruler will lead and care for his people by the power and glorious name of the Lord his God. His people will live securely, and the whole earth will know his true greatness,  because he will bring peace.
Micah 5:2‭, ‬4‭-‬5 CEV

Micah said to summon the troops. The mother of battles was coming. For 700 years Israel was a battle ground for various armies.

1. Place of origin. What good can come from Bethlehem? It's too small. It means house of bread. Boaz story was in Bethlehem. Gen 49.10
2. promised gift. They wanted an earthly king. They need a Saviour. A gift that existed before eternity. Shalom
3. Nazareth is where Mary lived.
So Joseph had to leave Nazareth in Galilee and go to Bethlehem in Judea. Long ago Bethlehem had been King David's hometown, and Joseph went there because he was from David's family.  Mary was engaged to Joseph and traveled with him to Bethlehem. She was soon going to have a baby,
Luke 2:4‭-‬5 CEV
God knows the details.
4. The right place for delivery.
Be in the right place. Herod and the religious leaders knew it but didn't go there.
You are here listening to this sermon because God brought you here. Do you want the truth to change your heart? Now is the time.
Emmanuel God with us.

Rejoice rejoice

The Messiah Prophesies

Love without boundaries
Love driving motorcycles
There is a wild side. May 1976 brother broke his leg. Fixed the bike. Took brother's tutor home and had a serious accident. Lungs punctured. It was everyone else's fault. Age 16. Lost perspective of God.
Clarity of mind is important in life.

If you are thirsty, come and drink water! If you don't have any money, come, eat what you want! Drink wine and milk without paying a cent.   Why waste your money on what really isn't food? Why work hard for something that doesn't satisfy? Listen carefully to me, and you will enjoy the very best foods.   Pay close attention! Come to me and live. I will promise you the eternal love and loyalty that I promised David.  Turn to the Lord ! He can still be found. Call out to God! He is near.  The Lord says: "My thoughts and my ways are not like yours.
Isaiah 55:1‭-‬3‭, ‬6‭, ‬8 CEV

He suffered and endured great pain for us, but we thought his suffering was punishment from God.    He was wounded and crushed because of our sins; by taking our punishment, he made us completely well.
Isaiah 53:4‭-‬5 CEV
When we encounter our brokenness we know there is a loving God.
If uncle Joe leaves everything to you, it may end up in court to test whether it really is what he wanted.

God's will was recorded 100s of years before it came to pass.

The Lord says: My servant will succeed! He will be given great praise and the highest honors.  Many were horrified at what happened to him. But everyone who saw him was even more horrified because he suffered until he no longer looked human.   My servant will make nations worthy to worship me; kings will be silent as they bow in wonder. They will see and think about things they have never seen or thought about before.
Isaiah 52:13‭-‬15 CEV

Jesus is a servant and shepherd.

Has anyone believed us or seen the mighty power of the Lord in action?  Like a young plant or a root that sprouts in dry ground, the servant grew up obeying the Lord . He wasn't some handsome king. Nothing about the way he looked made him attractive to us.  He was hated and rejected; his life was filled with sorrow and terrible suffering. No one wanted to look at him. We despised him and said, "He is a nobody!"  He suffered and endured great pain for us, but we thought his suffering was punishment from God.    He was wounded and crushed because of our sins; by taking our punishment, he made us completely well.   All of us were like sheep that had wandered off. We had each gone our own way, but the Lord gave him the punishment we deserved.     He was painfully abused, but he did not complain. He was silent like a lamb being led to the butcher, as quiet as a sheep having its wool cut off.  He was condemned to death without a fair trial. Who could have imagined what would happen to him? His life was taken away because of the sinful things my people had done.
Isaiah 53:1‭-‬8 CEV

He was born into poverty. He carried our sorrows. He was crushed.
Substitutionary death.
Carried our sorrows.

The everlasting God loves you so much.
After the crash called dad to come and take him to hospital. His dad hugged him said it's ok.
He's 92 today.
Embrace the Father's Love today.

Prepare the Way

Johnny Dodsworth www.EasTview.org
Have you ever been unprepared?
Was a goalie and forgot the jock. Lost the game. Forgot the 1st piece of equipment.
Dora the Explorer has a song that was not planned. I'm the map. It's brutal.
Prepare the Way of the Lord
This is the Good News about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God. It began just as the prophet Isaiah had written: "Look, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, and he will prepare your way.
Mark 1:1‭-‬2 NLT

I, the Lord All-Powerful, will send my messenger to prepare the way for me. Then suddenly the Lord you are looking for will appear in his temple. The messenger you desire is coming with my promise, and he is on his way.
Malachi 3:1 CEV

People would go ahead of the king fixing the road in preparation.
I am sending an angel to protect you and to lead you into the land I have ready for you.
Exodus 23:20 CEV

Jews that heard Mark's gospel would have connected the dots. The Torah, major and minor prophets all forecast the coming of ther Messenger.
So John the Baptist showed up in the desert and told everyone, "Turn back to God and be baptized! Then your sins will be forgiven."
Mark 1:4 CEV

You can't fix the cracks by yourself. God in human form needs to fix the sin issue. PEACE is not a lack of war. It's Shalom peace.
Are you prepared for the shalom of Jesus? The Way of the Lord? Daily take the posture of Jesus.

An I prepared? Lord I need you today.
Make disciples. That is hard.
Posture of repentance.
Respond. Ask the Lord what do I need to repent of?

Prayer from MB website. Gracious God help us prepare. Lord hear our prayer.

Hope in the Messiah

The candle of hope reminds us to live in hope for the 2nd coming of Christ.
Delbert Enns www.EasTview.org
How do you define authentic hope when things go wrong? How do you look down the road?
There is no other hope than Jesus. Are you hopeful? Tomorrow will be as good as yesterday.
And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.
Hebrews 11:6 NLT

Malachi to Matthew is 400 years of silence. This is a record of the ancestors of Jesus the Messiah, a descendant of David and of Abraham :
Matthew 1:1 NLT
Genealogy was everything. Royal descent was so important. Even today we want to know our ancestry.
Proving to be a descendant of David made you royal.

I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who treat you with contempt. All the families on earth will be blessed through you."
Genesis 12:2‭-‬3 NLT

God had a plan after the Fall. Redemption through Jesus. God put Abraham to the test.

Have you placed your faith in Jesus?
What he says he will provide.
Jesus is also a descendant of David a man after his own heart. He was a glorious man. But a bloody one. In spite of that God promised his kingdom to last forever.

David was also tested. He had a wicked son and tried to split the kingdom. In the end they were taken into exile.

Jeremiah said the days are coming when a branch of David will spring up.
"In those days and at that time I will raise up a righteous descendant from King David's line. He will do what is just and right throughout the land. In that day Judah will be saved, and Jerusalem will live in safety. And this will be its name: 'The Lord Is Our Righteousness.'
Jeremiah 33:15‭-‬16 NLT

Look down the road? Where are you looking? I will trust in the promises of God. If you have never done that, do it now.
Wait with great expectations. Today. Confess Jesus as Lord. Pray now.

Lots of Atrocities in this world

Delbert Enns pastor www.EasTview.org

Prophesies of the Messiah
300 Old Testament have been fulfilled. We will look at 6.

How do these relate to us?
Jesus walked with 2 disciples and beginning with Moses he explained.
Then he carefully unveiled to them the revelation of himself throughout the Scripture. He started from the beginning and explained the writings of Moses and all the prophets, showing how they wrote of him and revealed the truth about himself.
Luke 24:27 TPT
But the Lord God warned him, "You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden— except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die."
Genesis 2:16‭-‬17 NLT

Satan planted doubt. How do I know it's true?
The serpent was the shrewdest of all the wild animals the Lord God had made. One day he asked the woman, "Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?"
Genesis 3:1 NLT

Did god? Not Yahweh Alohim Lord God.
He slammed God's character.
When we challenge God we are saying I want to be like him. Then they knew they had sinned and felt shame. God said, where are you?

God looks for me where I am. Who told you you were naked?

The Lord God said to the serpent, "Because you have done this, cursed are you above all livestock and above all beasts of the field; on your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life.
Genesis 3:14 ESV

Enmity hostility between satan and the seed of the woman. Noah's generation.
Judas betrayed Jesus.
God told satan that he will be crushed. That happened at the cross. Now satan is wildly trying to take over the world.
But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty.
2 Timothy 3:1 ESV

But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.
Galatians 4:4‭-‬5 ESV
We are the seed. We are now adopted.
We are now living in God's love.
Sacrifice. Garments of skin. God takes care of them. He kills an animal to cover them up. Fig leaves were not good enough. Blood had to be shed.
The ultimate sacrifice is Jesus.

Ron Pearce The State Of The Kingdom

What is God doing around the world? The world is changing. Will be sitting in a secure cruise on the Nile river.
www.MySouthLand.com
The Kingdom was defined by Jesus. China is trying to eradicate the church. Drone surveillance. They are taking kids in school and torture interrogate them. Christians are being kicked out of their homes. They are coming out with a new communist Bible.
We are printing Bibles.
Why do they hate us? Who are the best people in the world?
They are envious and jealous. They see the kingdom getting built. The oneness a unity a family. Communists want that but can't achieve it.
We are becoming more unlike the non Christians.
There are many who want to be Christians but just can't submit.
One Lord One Baptism.
The Kingdom is growing around the world. Planted churches in Ethiopia and a million Muslims have become Christians.
They almost all have visions of Jesus. Whole villages are being converted and baptized.
3 week training sessions. Mats on the floor for sleeping and studying.
Powerful witch doctor got converted. Burnt all his perphaphanelia and has the gift of healing.
You led the captives free.
Kadar was a well known leader. He was witnessed to and prayed for and healed. He is now an evangelist. 1000 people were trained to witness. Jesus told another leader to find Kadar and he was converted and now preaches Jesus in the mosques.
Israel is coming alive. www.RonPearce.org
Mt Carmel Assembly has 30,000 believers now in 270 congregations.
They are converting Russian tourists. A whole busload of tourists got baptized when the bus stopped at the sea of Galilee.
People are being converted and healed.
Laos every house has a demon spirit. One leader a former powerful witch doctor has 45 churches. God delivered him in a dream. Go door to door and heal people. Demon possessed man was chained up. Prayed for him for 20 minutes and he was totally healed.

Ethiopian man had a vision. Had been witnessed to. Saw the tribulation and his family dying. He also saw Christians in peace worshipping Jesus. He is now busy. He walks to every village 20 hours a day begging people to accept the Lord.

The Kingdom is based on the Bible. Need 100s of thousands of Bibles. $12 will train an evangelist in China.

Deacons what do they do?

Jonathan Wiebe www.EasTview.org
EKKLESIA / / CHURCH
God intends to live among us.
He gave us special instructions on how to build the church.
How should we live together?
Diakonos a Greek word Jesus used.
Jesus told them, "In this world the kings and great men Lord it over their people, yet they are called 'friends of the people.'  But among you it will be different. Those who are the greatest among you should take the lowest rank, and the leader should be like a servant.
Luke 22:25‭-‬26 NLT
His disciples wondered what Jesus was up to. This was upside down.
Jesus says I'm among you as one who serves. Diakonos. Servant. Server. To serve you.
Dulos I do what I'm told
No room for power struggles or ego.
John 12
The Greeks paid a visit to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee. They said, "Sir, we want to meet Jesus." Philip told Andrew about it, and they went together to ask Jesus. Anyone who wants to serve me must follow me, because my servants must be where I am. And the Father will honor anyone who serves me.
John 12:21‭-‬22‭, ‬26 NLT

I commend to you our sister Phoebe, who is a deacon in the church in Cenchrea.
Romans 16:1 NLT
She may have delivered Paul's letter and read it to the church.

Jesus died for us. Serve your heart out.
Don't dismiss the challenge.

What Should A Preacher Do?

Winston Churchill Jr
www.EasTview.org
Hope by 10th Avenue song

All preaching must be done under the Holy Spirit. A burden to share the Love of God. The Holy Spirit is your teacher to give you the meat of the message.
What's the most important? To love the Lord your God with all your strength.
1 Timothy
Preaching is the power
Teaching is the transmission
Are you defeated? The Power of the Holy Spirit is missing
Biblical Doctrine the Truth of God God's thoughts are not your thoughts
nor did we crave the praises of men, whether you or others. Even though we could have imposed upon you our demands as apostles of Christ, instead we showed you kindness and were gentle among you. We cared for you in the same way a nursing mother cares for her own children. With a mother's love and affectionate attachment to you, we were very happy to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our lives—because you had become so dear to us.
1 Thessalonians 2:6‭-‬8 TPT

Biblical Theology is applying God's Truth to life. It's the only truth there is.
1 Timothy 4
Jesus started baptizing and John said it's ok.

So until I come, be diligent in devouring the Word of God, be faithful in prayer, and in teaching the believers. Make all of this your constant meditation and make it real with your life so everyone can see that you are moving forward.
1 Timothy 4:13‭, ‬15 TPT
If I were to speak with eloquence in earth's many languages, and in the heavenly tongues of angels, yet I didn't express myself with love, my words would be reduced to the hollow sound of nothing more than a clanging cymbal. Until then, there are three things that remain: faith, hope, and love—yet love surpasses them all. So above all else, let love be the beautiful prize for which you run.
1 Corinthians 13:1‭, ‬13 TPT
Search the Scriptures for yourself.
It took 25 years to get the book of John translated into a new language.

God, do the work in me. In spite of rabbit trails.

Our world is broken.

Ekklesia Baptism

Matthew 28:19‭-‬20 TPT

When they heard this they were crushed and realized what they had done to Jesus. Deeply moved, they said to Peter and the other apostles, "What do we need to do, brothers?" Peter replied, "Repent and return to God, and each one of you must be baptized in the name of Jesus, the Anointed One, to have your sins removed. Then you may take hold of the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Acts 2:37‭-‬38 TPT

3000 people gave their lives to Jesus and were baptized. The baptism of the Holy Spirit saves us. Why do we have a tank? An outward sign of an inward change.

Just as the human body is one, though it has many parts that together form one body, so too is Christ. For by one Spirit we all were immersed and mingled into one single body. And no matter our status—whether we are Jews or non-Jews, oppressed or free—we are all privileged to drink deeply of the same Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 12:12‭-‬13 TPT

The Church the Called out ones

Terrance Wiebe www.EasTview.org
Who is in charge? Jesus and the elders.
Elders appears 26 times in the New Testament. Elders lead together.
And now, a word to you who are elders in the churches. I, too, am an elder and a witness to the sufferings of Christ. And I, too, will share in his glory when he is revealed to the whole world. As a fellow elder, I appeal to you: Care for the flock that God has entrusted to you. Watch over it willingly, not grudgingly—not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve God. Don't Lord it over the people assigned to your care, but lead them by your own good example. And when the Great Shepherd appears, you will receive a crown of never-ending glory and honor. In the same way, you who are younger must accept the authority of the elders. And all of you, dress yourselves in humility as you relate to one another, for "God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble."
1 Peter 5:1‭-‬5 NLT
Peter was the superstar of the Church but he called himself an elder. A fellow employee?
Accept that you bless others in humility.
Peter was not a shepherd but the shepherd theme is all over the NT.
David was a shepherd. Ps 23 the Lord is my shepherd. Sometimes he has to MAKE us lie down. Sometimes he has to make a quiet pool. Sometimes he has to pull the sheep back up when it falls.
Luke 15 the shepherd finds the lost sheep. 1 Samuel 17 David rescued sheep and killed the bear. Jesus reached into the mouth of death and saved us. Jesus wants us.
James 5 cover a multitude of sins
1 Timothy 3.1 want to be a leader.
John 10 the Good Shepherd lays down his life. He doesn't run away.

The methods of the corporate world can't be applied to the church. The elder is part of the flock.
John 13 Jesus washed feet even though he was Lord. Do as he did.

Discipleship part 4: GO

Bruxy Cavey
Home church is how we grow. Starting Over
We connect with people who have fallen away from the gospel. How do we connect with the people who have no church background?
Acts 1 the resurrected Jesus hangs out with the disciples teaching them about the kingdom of God. 40 days intensive.
V6 stop asking about the kingdom of Israel.
The Holy Spirit will bring the dynamite into you. Wait for it. Become gaga for Jesus. A witness is not the lawyer but to share what they know.
Talking to people about what you are learning. Share.
Expert testimony comes from those who become experts on a subject. You can be an eye witness. That's a great question but here is what I know.
Learning after the fact is helpful for a repeated activity. God's first miracle is changing you and you learn to share.

1. Start gospel conversations.
A. Review your cheat sheet.
B. Be genuinely spiritually curious find out what others think
C. Ask lots of questions

2. Use social media
A. Follow us on social media
B. Comment on posts
C. Repost

3. (re)union study for sinners saints and
B. As a home church
C. Share the video inviting your friends
There is no more influential person than Jesus.

Jesus was a revolutionary upside down Matthew 16.24
Then Jesus said to his disciples, "If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me.  If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.  And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul?
Matthew 16:24‭-‬26 NLT
He touched lepers. Talked to women. Tax collectors. He challenged everyone. Christians gathered in homes and studied God's word. They changed the Roman empire without a single mega church. They were fearless. Trust God not the Roman empire.
1. Common truth Jesus is God
2. Uncommon joy
3. Fearless not passive
4. Known as people of love
5. Gave sacrificially
They brought glory to the Father because Jesus
Acts 2.42 fellowship and teaching
By 20 years later there were 5,000
300 A.D. there were 60,000,000 Christians.
Their love for Jesus caused the church to grow.
They had strife between the ethnic groups.
The church has made man made boundaries.
The world hates you if you really want to follow Jesus.
There were lots of issues in the church. Immorality. Lazy people.
Gnosticism was all about human knowledge. Just know more.

Jesus asked us to live by the Holy Spirit. Paul wrote to the Roman church telling them that all have sinned. Doing good won't save you.
Without faith it's impossible to please God.
2 Timothy 3.2 people have the appearance of godliness.
Are we trying to be good? Jesus you are the son of the living God. Jesus died for the church and he is the head of the church.
Ephesians 1.15 enlightened by the hope of Jesus. All things under him. Live it out!

Dr. Tremper Longman III

The whole Bible is God's word to us.
Proverbs talks about wisdom. We think it teaches us how to navigate life. Emotional intelligence is more important than high IQ. READ the book of Proverbs. Ethical people are righteous. 1.3
To be wise you need the fear of the Lord at the beginning.
Why fear? Love?
This fear does not make you run. It is meant to make you humble in the sight of God the Creator.
Phil worship the Lord with fear and trembling.
Money and generosity.
We tend to cherry pick the proverbs for what we like.
7 themes
1. God blesses the righteous wise with wealth
2. Foolish behavior leads to poverty. Best route defined not guaranteed
3. Wealth of fools is temporal
4. Sometimes people are poor because of injustice
5. Wisdom is better than wealth
6. Wealth has limited value.
7. Those who are wealthy must be generous. Ps 112.5 supports that. None of us here are poor. Many of us are fabulously wealthy.
Too much money is no good. Daily bread is all we need. Let me not be too rich or too poor.
Hoarding money is no good.

The church is a sending body. Moving sending going reconciling.
Matthew 28 assumes you are going and proclaiming. Moving. Leaving behind.

The Lord said go for blessings. Even when not all the pieces are in place. God will help us even through the fear we have.

Jonah 1.1,3 he fled from God. But Jonah got up and went in the opposite direction to get away from the Lord . He went down to the port of Joppa, where he found a ship leaving for Tarshish. He bought a ticket and went on board, hoping to escape from the Lord by sailing to Tarshish.
Jonah 1:3 NLT
The call makes you more complete if you follow it. There's a call to move. It's hard to untangle ourselves.
Too often we tell people but we don't go with them. We sit in one place. We don't know what it means to follow Jesus. We see it modeled by the people who come from Eastview.

Ekklesia // Church

In 1978 we decided to hitchhike to Thompson and made 50 phone calls to find someone that would take us in for the night. They ended up in the Loyal Church of Thompson where they served wine for lunch.

What is church? Video Pastoral malpractice. Francis Chan
What if we all pull out a piece of paper and wrote down what the church should be.

Ekklesia what does it mean? The gathering of those who serve the Lord. Tyndale lost his life over that translation.

What is the function? We do what we do because of habit?

The church is not about one person the pastor prefect not the only place to hear from God.

In the same way that nursing infants cry for milk, you must intensely crave the pure spiritual milk of God's Word . For this "milk" will cause you to grow into maturity, fully nourished and strong for life— especially now that you have had a taste of the goodness of the Lord Jehovah and have experienced his kindness. So keep coming to him who is the Living Stone—though he was rejected and discarded by men but chosen by God and is priceless in God's sight. Come and be his "living stones" who are continually being assembled into a sanctuary for God. For now you serve as holy priests, offering up spiritual sacrifices that he readily accepts through Jesus Christ.

Matthew 16.18 the church should prevail. What do you say? Peter said you are the Christ the Son of the living God.

Go to Jerusalem to wait for the Holy Spirit. Then you'll become witnesses. In Jerusalem https://youtu.be/bgQ2wiTefmQ

By the 3rd century you needed to punish yourself when you sinned. Middle age you paid for forgiveness.

The last 800 years we have seen reforms reforms but still have problems.

What are we called to be. To bring greater glory.

If someone asked you who is Jesus? What would you say?

Isolated stones do not make a building.

But you are God's chosen treasure—priests who are kings, a spiritual "nation" set apart as God's devoted ones. He called you out of darkness to experience his marvelous light, and now he claims you as his very own. He did this so that you would broadcast his glorious wonders throughout the world .

I was hoping You would write to me a message in the stars
As if the stars themselves were not enough
And I awaited Your arrival here from some place very far
As if I couldn't feel Your constant touch
Why did I think that You'd send thunder
To wake me from my slumber
When anytime I open up my eyes

There You are loving me like crazy
There You are, I am unaware
There You are when my heart is doubting
    Even there You are

Well, I was wishing for a miracle and waiting for a sign
As if each breath I take is not a gift
And I was acting just as if the way You gave your life for mine
Didn't have my foolish heart convinced
What did I think could 'cause this hunger
Did I ever stop to wonder
Why anytime I open my eyes

There You are loving me like crazy
There You are, I am unaware
There You are when my heart is doubting

You say I am loved when I can't feel a thing
You say I am strong when I think I am weak
You say I am held when I am falling short
When I don't belong, oh You say I am Yours
And I believe, oh I believe
What You say of me

Pastoral prayer

Acts 18
After this Paul departed from Athens and went to Corinth.  There he found a Jew named Aquila, a native of Pontus, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had ordered all the Jews to depart from Rome. Paul approached them, and because he worked at the same trade, he stayed with them and worked with them (for they were tentmakers by trade).  He addressed both Jews and Greeks in the synagogue every Sabbath, attempting to persuade them.
Acts 18:1‭-‬4 NET

Encouragement in tough times
2 boys wanted to shovel a driveway because the owner had started and they got most of their business from people that were worn out and ready to quit.
Paul was ready to quit. This was the most corrupt city. There were 1000 temple prostitutes.  Having sex with them was part of worship. Lots of perversion. homosexuals

The Lord said to Paul by a vision in the night, "Do not be afraid, but speak and do not be silent, because I am with you, and no one will assault you to harm you, because I have many people in this city." So he stayed there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.
Acts 18:9‭-‬11 NET

Now a days 11m$ is being spent on pornography every hour. Our society is so like the Corinthians. No morality.

God said don't be discouraged. Even when he was by himself. He tried teaching the Jews but they rejected him. He slammed the door because he was tired. So he went to the gentiles.
He was often homeless. He worked to support himself when necessary.

The city was discouraging
The church was discouraging. He wrote 29 chapters to help and rebuke them about immorality and greed.
The amazing thing is that a church that gets messy still learns to serve the Lord.
Since Constantine the church has been the foundation of society. In the last generation our society is falling apart. But the gospel can still change hearts.
Do not be afraid. "Because I have many people in this city."

He celebrated the joys of life.
Trust in the Lord. The word trust is a tricky word. Hard to attain easy to lose.
A mountain is hard to climb but one small slip and it's all over.
Trust with the whole heart. Put all your chips with God.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
Proverbs 3:5‭-‬6 NLT
The world tells us to put your trust in yourself. Your friends. Your job. That will fail us.
The Lord is the name of God. He hears our prayers. Remember who He is. He is faithful. He is so for you that he died to save you. Nick wasn't perfect. Romans 8 Jesus reconciled us to the Father. We forgive because we have been forgiven. Nothing can separate us from the Love of God.

Prophesies Jesus fulfilled

What do we do while we wait?

Many will come and claim to be me. They will say they are the Messiah, and they will fool many people.  Nations and kingdoms will go to war against each other. People will starve to death, and in some places there will be earthquakes.
Matthew 24:5‭, ‬7 CEV

When the Bible repeats pay attention.
What are the signs?
Earthquakes, hatred killings
Gospel preached around the world. Joshua Project 6b people unreached  Wycliffe
Great distress
False Prophets
Signs in the heavens stars falling

Don't be alarmed  this is just the start. When the gospel is preached all over the world he'll come.

Don't lose the truth. Beware of false prophets.

The kingdom of heaven is like what happened one night when ten young women took their oil lamps and went to a wedding to meet the groom.  But the groom replied, "I don't even know you!"
Matthew 25:1‭, ‬12 CEV

The parable of the gold. Good guy got rewarded the lazy one: You are a worthless servant, and you will be thrown out into the dark where people will cry and grit their teeth in pain."
Matthew 25:30 CEV

Sheep and goats

When the Son of Man comes in his glory with all his angels, he will sit on his royal throne. He will place the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. The king will answer, "Whenever you did it for any of my people, no matter how unimportant they seemed, you did it for me."

Then the king will say to those on his left, "Get away from me! You are under God's curse. Go into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels! The king will say to them, "Whenever you failed to help any of my people, no matter how unimportant they seemed, you failed to do it for me."

Then Jesus said, "Those people will be punished forever. But the ones who pleased God will have eternal life."
Matthew 25:31‭, ‬33‭-‬33‭, ‬40‭-‬41‭, ‬45‭-‬46 CEV

Take care of the hungry thirsty stranger naked

Isaiah 58 says the same thing.
Then you will truly enjoy knowing the Lord . He will let you rule from the highest mountains and bless you with the land of your ancestor Jacob. The Lord has spoken!

Samuel Isaac Brandt

July 21, 1981 - July 28, 2018

Tributes
Samuel loved traveling. When in China he went to English corner.
Go! Was one word to describe Samuel. Go into the world and share the faith. He moved bravely and with courage. Go! Samuel go with Jesus.

Roger. Met him at the Chinese church. Impressed with his energy. I was seeking Christ and Samuel led me to Jesus. He had a firm foundation in Christ. We had a Bible study. He was outgoing and passionate. We lost count of how many friends he had. He wanted to have children.
He had a passion to lead others to Jesus. Be caring be positive. John 3.16 God loved the world.
Ephesians 2.8 by Grace you've been saved was one of the last verses we shared. He was a bright star.

Samuel loved ice coffee long before it was fashionable. We loved trucking. He was Go guy. Entrepreneur. Help people that needed help. Loved his parents and sisters.
Wanted marriage. Maribel died 4 months later. Samuel came to help while our daughter needed care. Let's walk through your issues. He helped through the challenges. He wrote and published a book.
Samuel was excited to move back to Manitoba. He cried for joy when his son was born.
Spoke to him Thursday night. He was asking God how he could share his story to help others.

The family
Sisters Nieces and nephews
Samuel you were our leader. I kept bugging him. He never got angry. Samuel you were our adventure. Jumping from the top of the roof. You lived for the story.
Hiking with you was an adventure straight through the bush or the mountain. His little sisters could do everything when he made it a race.
Samuel believed in us. He loved us.
You inspired us. Your faith
Dominique. Uncle Samuel swam in the river.
No more earthly restrictions. Samuel you would

Grema met him in 16. He was a loving husband. He was loved. He was a father that loved his son so much. Lots of wisdom. Captured my heart. He gave my life meaning. He danced like a baby.
No regrets to marry him 2 years. Love you forever.

Jeannine Samuel was not relaxed. Crazy wild passionate. He is the comic relief at his funeral.
Be still and know.
Video series to have more passion in life.
Winter fun. Cold water foot dipping.

Corn roast coming up. He used to grow corn and sell it at the farmer's market. He planted corn this spring. It's ready to enjoy. Come share the joy. Open mic there.
Remember the vim he had.

Preacher met Samuel at the Chinese church. He thought English in China. He had 1600 people on his phone.

If I fought wild beasts but have no hope....
He was grounded in eternal hope. Not human hope. Faith in Christ being sure of what we hope for.
4 years ago he called. His voice was a whisper when he called to say his new wife had died.
We do not grieve without hope. This hope is an anchor. Jesus is our anchor. We will see Jesus face to face. He is in heaven now. Revelation. A great multitude standing before the lamb. He loved nations.
Dubai never a dull moment with Samuel.

What got him to heaven was inviting Jesus into his life. Do it today.

Your Blessing of Restriction

Darryl Friesen www.YourAnchorPoint.com
What's the difference between boundaries and rules?
Analogies are limited and finite. How does our relationships with children parallel God's relationship with us.
Rules have consequences. They are not adjustable.
Boundaries are flexible and personal. Bedtimes are for their good. It's a blessing. It brings joy the next day. She tests the boundaries.
Boundaries are more complex and harder to understand.
Heart attitude is harder.
Jacob's bedside blessings,

Jacob called his sons together and said: My sons, I am Jacob, your father Israel.  Come, gather around, as I tell your future.  These are the twelve tribes of Israel, and this is how Jacob gave each of them their proper blessings.
Genesis 49:1‭-‬2‭, ‬28 CEV

A blessing for days to come. He was prophetic.
This confronts the concept of blessing across generations. Rarely do we think in prospective of the future.
V28 everything spoken here is a blessing.
V1-7 how can these verses be a blessings? Demoting these brothers was a blessing to the nation. Ruben attempted to grab leadership by sleeping with his father's wife. The oldest 2 abused the covenant of circumcision. They killed the people of Sechem. That disqualified them to lead the Israelites. So that made the curses they got into blessings.
They were likely devastated.

It's possible they were thinking they had done the right thing. Levi was rewarded and set apart after they killed 3000. They were zealous for the honor of God.

Good gifts come from the father of lights. What do we do when our wings have been clipped?
God decision to disallow us to fill roles that we are unsuited for are a blessing.
God is good all the time. He restores forgives.
Isaiah 55.8
The Lord says: "My thoughts and my ways are not like yours.   "Rain and snow fall from the sky. But they don't return without watering the earth that produces seeds to plant and grain to eat.  That's how it is with my words. They don't return to me without doing everything I send them to do."
Isaiah 55:8‭, ‬10‭-‬11 CEV

Why I'm Not a Christian

In his book, Why I am not a Christian, skeptic Bertrand Russell admitted that the primary reason he could not be a Christian was that Jesus believed in hell and taught about it in one verse after another again and again. Russell called Christ belief in the wrath of God the one serious defect in Christ's moral character.

I cannot tell you how many people I have read about who have said they could not be Christians because of the doctrine of God's Wrath.

But let me give you the other side of the story.

Croatian theologian Miroslav Volf wrote in his book Free of Charge:

I used to think that wrath was unworthy of God. Isn't God love? Shouldn't divine love be beyond wrath? God is love, and God loves every person and every creature. That's exactly why God is wrathful against some of them. My last resistance to the idea of God's wrath was a casualty of the war in the former Yugoslavia, the region from which I come. According to some estimates, 200,000 people were killed and over 3,000,000 were displaced. My villages and cities were destroyed, my people shelled day in and day out, some of them brutalized beyond imagination, and I could not imagine God not being angry. Or think of Rwanda in the last decade of the past century, where 800,000 people were hacked to death in one hundred days! How did God react to the carnage? By doting on the perpetrators in a grandparently fashion? By refusing to condemn the bloodbath but instead affirming the perpetrators' basic goodness? Wasn't God fiercely angry with them? Though I used to complain about the indecency of the idea of God's wrath, I came to think that I would have to rebel against a God who wasn't wrathful at the sight of the world's evil. God isn't wrathful in spite of being love. God is wrathful because God is love.

He went on to say that when you watch families and Friends murdered in front of you the only way to keep from going insane his to know there is a God who is angry and he will one day restore justice.  If your God doesn't possess the ability to feel wrath you will seek with insatiable desire to seek Vengeance yourself. Only when you believe that God has a sword in his hand can you lay it down from your hand.

That is what Paul was saying when he wrote to the Romans beloved do not avenge yourselves but give place to God for it is written vengeance is mine I will repay.

First Presbyterian Church of Far Rockaway

Rest A While
Pastor Rev. Aqueelah Ligonde
The apostles returned and met with Jesus, and told him all they had done and taught. There were so many people coming and going that Jesus and his disciples didn't even have time to eat. So he said to them, "Let us go off by ourselves to some place where we will be alone and you can rest for a while."  When Jesus got out of the boat, he saw this large crowd, and his heart was filled with pity for them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began to teach them many things.
Mark 6:30‭-‬31‭, ‬34 GNBDC

Jesus said let's rest. Before you do more. Chill out.
Martha is busy. Mary keeps asking Jesus to tell another story. Martha you are distracted. Chill out girl. It's better to rest.
Are you frazzled? Rest. Take care of yourself. Resting and doing needs balance. Do and Are. Chill out. Time away with Jesus. Be. Be with your spouse.
Take a nap. Did it the next day. Woke up refreshed. Things went well after that. Jesus took a nap. Just be.
Our devices tell us to slow down. Quiet doesn't mean silent. Take a walk on the board walk. Take out the jump rope. Jump.
Breathe once in a while.

There is power in the Name of Jesus

2 Samuel 6
Aqueelah Ligonde Far Rockaway Presbyterian
The Ark of the Covenant had been at Abinadab's house for 20 years. David decided it needed to be in Jerusalem.
Uzzah had died.
He was not willing to take the ark of the Lord to be with him in the City of David. Instead, he took it to the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite. The ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite for three months, and the Lord blessed him and his entire household.  Now King David was told, "The Lord has blessed the household of Obed-Edom and everything he has, because of the ark of God." So David went to bring up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with rejoicing.
2 Samuel 6:10‭-‬12 NIV
The power of the presence of God was there. Dangerous. We love joy and dancing. 2 years ago Sandra died in a jail cell. Thousands of children have been separated from their parents. So much injustice.
Saw the presence of God all week at Vacation Bible School.
We saw God's presence in the celebration of homegoing. Joy comes in the morning. We get tired in life but there is hope and rejoicing on the other side.
David had to recalculate his next move but he danced for God.
Don't be the miserable person. Dance a little. Even when it hurts. Joy comes in the morning. Don't stop dancing. The presence of the Lord is here.

Far Rockaway Namaste

Mark 6:1-13 Jesus was amazed at their lack of faith.
Pastor Rev Aqueelah Ligonde
Namaste is said to respect each other. I bow to the light in you.
In Jesus's home town they did not see the light in him.
Some folks refuse to recognize the light in you. It really hurts when your family turns their back on you. We want our family to be our cheer leaders.
Jesus kept serving even when they didn't like him.
He sent his boys into the community. If they don't see the light in you SHAKE IT OFF!
We've got work to do. This community needs some Namaste moments. There is a reason you are here today. God saw this moment.
I'm preaching at myself today. When you pour light into somebody it pours back into you.
What we have is the answer to Far Rockaway. To change the world. Recognize the light in somebody today.

Sunder Krishnan prayer

Gesalt story
Amusement is the opposite of muse to think
Moses felt called to rescue his the. He had lots of vision passion and purpose. Not the right kind.
He fled.
Became a shepherd.
Saw a burning bush that was not consumed. The fire did not need the bush for fuel.
Rexdale Alliance was to become a beacon to the world. The excellence of the human soul
The horrifying prospect of success without God.
The Emotionally Healthy Leader. Larry had a growing church but failed miserably.

The LORD said to Moses, "Leave this place, you and the people you brought out of Egypt, and go to the land that I promised to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and to their descendants. You are going to a rich and fertile land. But I will not go with you myself, because you are a stubborn people, and I might destroy you on the way."  When the people heard this, they began to mourn and did not wear jewellery any more. So after they left Mount Sinai, the people of Israel no longer wore jewellery.
Exodus 33:1‭, ‬3‭-‬4‭, ‬6 GNB

When Moses went into the tent the Israelites stood and worshipped.

Moses said to the LORD , "It is true that you have told me to lead these people to that land, but you did not tell me whom you would send with me. You have said that you know me well and are pleased with me. Now if you are, tell me your plans, so that I may serve you and continue to please you. Remember also that you have chosen this nation to be your own."  The LORD said, "I will go with you, and I will give you victory."  Moses replied, "If you do not go with us, don't make us leave this place. How will anyone know that you are pleased with your people and with me if you do not go with us? Your presence with us will distinguish us from any other people on earth."
Exodus 33:12‭-‬16 GNB

Egypt knew how to build pyramids on the bodies of slaves. Moses was trained in that wisdom.

We need to get deeper and deeper in debt to God. Apart from me you can do nothing. Teach me your ways so I may know you more.

36 years of preaching has changed me. Still learning. God is more concerned with how we do, not what.

God you started this and now you finish it. These are your people.

Teach me
We want your presence to go with us. Everybody needs to know who you are. Unique.
Any time of prayer can be an adventure.
Show me your glory. This is the foundational prayer. Revelation mission accomplished. It's the fuel that keeps us going.
The joy is complete when others see it too.
God says v23 you can see my hind quarter
We are not like Moses. We don't need the veil.
You will be touched and transformed.

Mephibosheth was lame.

There was a servant of Saul's family named Ziba, and he was told to go to David. "Are you Ziba?" the king asked. "At your service, sir," he answered.   The king asked him, "Is there anyone left of Saul's family to whom I can show loyalty and kindness, as I promised God I would?" Ziba answered, "There is still one of Jonathan's sons. He is crippled."  When Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan and grandson of Saul, arrived, he bowed down before David in respect. David said, "Mephibosheth," and he answered, "At your service, sir."  "Don't be afraid," David replied. "I will be kind to you for the sake of your father Jonathan. I will give you back all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will always be welcome at my table."  Ziba answered, "I will do everything Your Majesty commands." So Mephibosheth ate at the king's table, just like one of the king's sons.

When we do kind things the people experience God's mercy and kindness.

With God's help we can find opportunities all the time.

We have kids at all levels in kid's church. We need more volunteers. Jayden is the leader for the grade 4 kids that each get an autographed Bible.
Grade 6 kids are moving to student ministries. Andy teaches them.

Encouragement. We took 25 on a weekend retreat to encourage them. They have a heart for God.

Pastor Dwight grade 12 graduations. Pray for them.

We are blessed.

Christ has no body here but ours
No hands, no feet here on earth but ours
Ours the eyes through which he looks
On this world with kindness

Ours are the hands through which he works
Ours are the feet on which he moves
Ours the voices through which he speaks
To this world with kindness
