Father we thank you that you know all about us. You count the hair on our heads. We bring our needs to you. Minister to us. Help those who are struggling, need healing, forgiveness, encouragement. Speak deeply to our hearts.
We pray for those impacted by hurricane Dorian. Halifax and Nova Scotia.
We pray for those who have not heard the gospel. Help us all to impact others for the gospel.
We pray for our country and leaders to serve our country. May your will be done in these elections. Grant that those who have ethics be elected.

Matthew 5
When Jesus was preaching about sin it makes us feel hopeless.

"Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets. I have not come to abolish these things but to fulfill them.  For I tell you, unless your righteousness goes beyond that of the experts in the law and the Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 5:17‭, ‬20 NET

What Jesus said was radically different. He had good news. Will he take away some of the commandments?
No. Any one who breaks the smallest bit of the law has broken it all.
Jesus came to fulfill the law.

What did Jesus mean?
Sin is missing the mark. Archery. Missed by an inch or a mile. Sin.
Not how good. How good we are not.
Missed the flight by a minute. Fall short.
We miss the target and the glory of God. The moral character of God.
In Jesus we see the glory of God. We were created in the moral image of God. We're supposed to reflect the glory.

People should see Jesus in me. The reason God says don't steal is because God doesn't steal. We are to reflect the character of God. The law tells us what God's character is.
We miss the mark.

Jesus ramped it up. Just look at a woman lustfully and commit adultery.
Be holy perfect as God.
They were amazed. What do you mean you should be perfect? You were created perfect.

Only when we know the depth of despair can we really come to God. Christ in you the hope of glory. We've all come short of it.
Christ living in you is your hope of glory.
God's Spirit helps us convert the law into a promise. We say thank you Lord.

Exciting. Putting the life of God back into the human experience. God sent his son to fulfill the law so that the law can be fulfilled in us. We don't tell lies. The law is written in your hearts because your sufficiency is in Christ. When you live by the Spirit you will not commit adultery.

Fulfillment of the law is to allow the Spirit in you.
