One year ago today Renée wanted mom to make cabbage soup

One year ago today Renée wanted her mom to make cabbage soup. Mom was donating her bone marrow and so could not make the soup. Well, she made the soup today. Alayna, Kara, Martha, and I will enjoy it even if it is mixed with tears.

    I've been thinking about all of you so much over these past several weeks leading up to today... And now today, I've not been able to stop thinking about Renee. I so wish I'd been able to have more time with her and with your family...
    I guess people come in and out of your life for any number of reasons. Some we never remember while others remain as little memories compartmentalized among a lifetime of experiences... Yet others leave such an impression on your heart and soul that they become, in some sense, a part of you and are then carried with you throughout all the rest of your days. For me, Renee is this type of person. I never would have known that when we first met (November 17, 2007), but I know it now.
    There's a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson that says, "It is one of the most beautiful compensations in life... that no man can sincerely try to help another without helping himself." I feel it is important to let you know that I learned so much from my time with Renee and have continued to learn from your family since her passing. Please know that you are always in my prayers and are never far from my heart...
