We went to the early service at www.Eastview.org . Got there late. Music too loud. Too much perfume up front.
Going to my folks today. Rainy day. Sleepless night. Brain spinning. What or how to talk about the ungoing pain of getting shafted from the family business? And the ongoing trauma of trying to run a emotionallly draining business. And the far greater associated pain of losing Renee. And the pain of neglecting her when she needed me while I was distracted with the kick-out. The pain of what is no more far exceeds the joy of what was.

Nailing Fear: Temptation
Think about a temptation you deal with often. Now tell the person next to you! Not really. Were you tempted to change your temptation.
Temptation leads to places you don't want to be.
We pray around it. Jesus said to pray lead us not into temptation but deliver us... From temptation? No_ from the evil one who uses temptation to lead us astray.
We face temptation all the time. Where does the Bible say resist temptation? Temptation is not the point- the evil one wants the temptation to become the focus of your life. Smoke and mirrors. To try to distract us from God not spending time to listen to God. It takes tons of willpower
James 1:12-16 you are blessed if you endure temptation. We are tempted by our own desires uniquely created. The devil has a big tackle box with all kinds of lures. Based on who I am. Those lures are attractive.
God has given you a choice. You can follow God or not. NLT Temptations entice and drag us away from God. Temptations are almost always related to our calling.
The early church was tempted to compromise the Message. They remained faitful
We know the things that tempt us. Do we have someone asking us keeping us accountable? Have you been true to God's Calling this week? that's far more important than worrying about temptation
Blessed are you when you endure- you get the crown. Eternal life and what's the most important in life here and now.
Deliver me from the distractor so I can do what you have Called me to be.
Remember Jesus and the two elements of bread and wine. I have been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb.
Take and eat
My God is mighty to save

Nailing Fear: Misunderstanding
Nailing Fear: Misunderstanding
www.EastView.org
Delbert Enns Pastor
Frustration Failure Discouragement Series.
O Lord my God how great you are
In you Lord we find strength
Bill Hillys show was all about Misunderstanding
You always get it wrong leads to frustration and broken relationships
The preacher often gets misunderstood
I am part of the Problem. Just don't tell me that
Nothing you say is ever right?
How can we nail the fear of being misunderstood?
The disciples were afraid after the resurrection! How could they explain who Jesus was? Jesus was supposed to be the savior of the Jews.
It takes 2 people to have flght. walking away does not solve the problem
Jesus was NW of Jerusalem when a Gentile woman came for help.
3 reasons for misunderstanding
1. Cultural differences. Latin America is all about emotions vs NA intellectual approach to everything. In God's kingdom there are no cultural barriers. Matthew said a "Woman of Cana" (enemy) came to see Jesus. She called Jesus Son of David Messiah and asks for help for her daughter.
3. Jesus did not respond right away. Awkward. On hold. She kept begging. Send her away said the disciples. Now the plot thickens. The woman did not walk away. She was persistent.
Finally something happens. Jesus tested her. She kneeled and begged. Jews called her a dog but she did not give up. Jesus was teaching equality to his disciples.
Pathways to understanding
1. Humility not self defense. Rethink. WWJjD? Jesus turned the story around and healed.
2. Forgiveness. Jesus showed us what that means.
Col 3. God chose you. Clothe yourself with tender mercies.

Nailing Fear: Failure
Nailing the Fear of Failure
www.eastview.org
Pastor Delbert Enns
Do you have failure written on your face?
Do I deserve this? Why did my kids not be turn out perfect?
Jesus is able to change things
The only man who makes no mistakes never does anything. -Rooseveld.
We are all losers.
Albert Einstein was kicked out of school. It took 10,000 tries to invent the light bulb.
We are often considered failures. God uses the shame link to do things. David a man after God's own heart committed adultery and murder. Peter denied Jesus 3 times.
How does Jesus embrace failure? The godly fall 7 times and get up. The wicked fail and give up.
Resurrection morning - go tell the disciples including Peter. Failure and self dislike go together.
Peter was specifically included in the invitation. Jesus did not write him off. Peter went fishing to hide. Delbert stole a sandwich in Gr 3 and felt guilty for 3 months.
How does Jesus deal with failure? He confronted Peter.
Jesus made breakfast and publically asked Peter- do you love me? Me? 3X
Jesus' love re-instates us. Failure reveals our need for God. Forgiveness. Jesus is walking to you this morning.
God loves us. God gave us His Holy Spirit.
After the service I was told that this message was specifically meant for me.

Welcome to SOAR Sunday
Sponsored by MB Missions. Student outreach to the inner city over spring break
Worship service at www.Eastview.org church
Songs:
God of this city the King of these people the Lord of this nation you are. Greater things are yet

There is no one like our God.
Blessed be your name
SOAR report:
22 kids received Christ as Savior
Some worked at Siloam mission where they prepared food and served it. Others worked at 188 Princess. Cleaning up. Hope is desiring to see something better.
Love. Jeanette ~ Inner city Chad greeted the teens. He had lost his wife in January. He relapsed into drugs. He asked lots of questions. Never saw him again. Hopefully he is alright. Studied Scripture to be able to answer his questions. It was good to share the gospel.
Others worked at Keenleyside with kids that are wonderful. 22 kids accepted Christ.
(how many of those become disciples?)
Corey Bell- youth leader. Put your sticky notes in the basket. What does God's love mean to you?
God loves us even if we don't feel it.
The cross is the evidence of God's love. Everyone was asked to write on a sticky note what God's love meant to them. The notes were collected and stuck on a large board at the front of the church to form a valentine.
Ask questions. Learn more about God. What does Jesus' love mean? How am I translatirg God's love to the people I meet?
God's love changes people. I have to understand it.
This church has a group of wonderful young people that love Jesus

Song: It is well with my soul (a maritime disaster song appropriate to sing on the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic)
Easter Sunday was amazing
Now it's your turn - go be disciples. I will will be with you to the end.
Did you let go of something for Lent? Coffee? To embrace something new?
We always want to be in control.
When we look in the mirror we see our sin and shame. Let go of it. When you put a seed into the ground it has to die before it can grow. Each plant has a beginning. Am I growing? Am I pruning the branches God wants me to prune?
Are we building for security? Status? Comfort?
Jesus' teaching entrances me.
Jesus went ahead of us. He gave us the gift of peace. Do not be troubled or afraid. No matter what comes our way.
When we tried to close on the building 188 Princess St. we had to wait for all the fine print before we could close. What ls Jesus' fine print? Unsatisfied expectations are not part of His promises. Conflict, Joyless life are not part of the deal. Joy is for those who have confessed their sin and have forgiveness.
Where are you God? Loneliness - Frodo has to carry the ring alone. But there is joy along the way.
God will comfort the lonely and abused.
God - do whatever you have to to.
The bonsai tree needs to be watered every week so it continues to grow. We are shaped by the circumstances around us.
Thank you God for not leaving us for transforming us.

Funeral for Ray Hobin
I got to know Ray early in the lumberyard days (1972?). He called on us way out in the country in the days when my office was a room in the chicken barn. I bet he sometimes wondered what he was doing there. I'm sure he held his nose when he came into the yard and his eyes would have watered up with the strong odor in the office. I wonder what he said to Margaret about the smell he brought home with him. He never let on that that it bothered him. He was always the consummate professional informational salesman. His advice helped us to grow our lumber and construction business.
Within the last 2 years he hoped that I would help him bring his knee saver invention into the market. That did not work for me at the time. I'm glad he found someone else that could do it.
One week ago he told our pastor: I've done what is needed and I'm ready to face Jesus. Margaret, his wife of 56 years said there was not a mean streak in him.
Does Jesus care? I know my Savior cares.
Born in Ontario during the depression and he joked he was still depressed. Bought the McLoed store in Gimli. Soft spoken.
Inventor of the knee saver plumber's table.
Lived with cancer for 8 years. He was not afraid to die. Loving husband and father we will miss him.
He inspired his family. He advised believe trust love. He was a wonderful grandfather. He bore his pain and suffering so eloquently.
Death is nothing. I have just slipped into the other room.
He taught me to respect myself and women. That goes together. Grand kids say you rock papa.
2nd son; His wise words would fill a up a room. He was my hero. He was happy to have grand children. He always understood. I have always wanted to fit into his shoes. Dad said - my shoes are old. Your shoes fit you. My children have shoes of their own to walk their own path. That's the gift my father gave me.
The family sat with Ray when he passed away. Isa 43 do not fear I have redeemed you.
We seek God's wisdom and comfort. Love and care are so important.
He, a Scotsman, married a Mennonite - he was a faithful loving husband.
He was a very forgiving father. He was a son of the living God. He was who he was because he was a child of God.
There's peace when I can say I will rise when He calls my name.
Internment in Gimli.

Dave Ens:
Today is Palm Sunday. Please stop to read the story again.
Today is April fools day - it's trick day. We think we are masters of deceit. We deceive ourselves.
The other day I was trying to a be good father and put on a good front. But my mind was elsewhere. Finally Nicole said: if you are not here why don't you go elsewhere?
We stand in front of the mirror and we blame what we see on the lights or other things. We try to deceive ourselves. Palm Sunday is like that. We expect Jesus to fix all our problems. "You really need Jesus" we say to others.
We need to stand in front of the mirror Isaiah 53:6 Jesus was despised and stricken with our iniquities.
These words define what's going on. Our sins crushed him. All our sins were piled on him. Am I that bad? Why did it have to happen? Such a cruel death.
Look in the mirror: we see SIN - denying it perpetuates it. Jesus died for what I did? He died for the source of what I do. The heart is evil.
SHAME - it cloaks us. Not easily removed. God created us in His image - male & female. They were naked and not ashamed. We break, corrupt what God has made. When they sinned they tried to cover their nakedness.
The Romans conquered the world by threatening crucifixion to all opponents. So opponents surrendered quickly.
Shame sits on us. Jesus takes our shame to renew the image of God in our lives. He took it defiantly and conquered the shame.
If we let our culture define our values we can't win. Only one has created us. Why don't we let him define us. While we were still sinners Christ died for us. To set us free.
You have a choice. You can stand in front of the mirror trying to define yourself. Or you can let your Creator define you.

Metaphor for life: A shoe in the middle of the road. How do you lose one shoe? Cars whizzing by. No stopping our progress to pick it up. Leave it behind. Do you ever feel left behind? Feel like that shoe? Why does no one stop to help? The day you were born you started to die. It's important to know that. God asked the rich man - are you prepared to die?
We are dust - from dust to dust. Think about death so death can be interrupted by life. Ash Wednesday ashes are last year's palm branches.
How are you? I'm fine! Not - I have 20 years to live.
Death is part of life. Ps 5-5:4-8 Let me fly away and be at rest. Why am I feeling this way? Isn't God supposed to make me happy? Why can't we have the Sunday resurrection without the Friday death?
With all the medical advances over the last century we will all still die.
If I can avoid sin we think we can avoid spiritual death and we get so busy being nice that we forget our mortality.
The irony of the cross is that it looks like defeat but it brings unleashes life.
I Cor 1:22-25 God's weakness is greater than human strength
Sin leads to death but we need to understand that in Christ comes our life. We can't boast in ourselves but in Christ alone. We journey to the cross aware of our mortality.

Joy - Care Group at Margarete's
Joy in spite of circumstances. She had car accident and almost got better then got broadsided again. Had a Christian therapist that helped to get over it - to not remember the pain.
What is joy? What does it look like? Happy peaceful feeling. It will be OK. Resting in God.
Oprah article. Martha Beck said: Happiness is being in a good exciting place, Lasting joy comes in peace and confidence.
Joy overflows from Christ in us. Even in the dark night of the soul.
What examples of joy do we have? Will the morning of joy ever come? Hang on - God is walking with us thru the night. God is in control.
Joy is to choose to trust. Focus on what to be thankful for. Cracks of light or flashes of joy can come in the night.
Be patient - do too much and the pain goes up. Splashes of Joy in the Cesspools of Life. Those happen even in the night. Each splash of joy helps to find the next. Often they come during tough times.
Don't wait for calm water recognize the nuggets when they come.
Choose to see where God is working. Focus on that. A baby's birth. Recognize that God is working to answer to provide a sense of His incredible love.
The glimpses of God's glory carry us though. We learn to trust Him more. Joy is knowledge.
Jeremiah: God knows the plans he has for you to do you good. God has those plans in place already.
How has God shown you his heart of love? An uncle in Paraguay with 10 kids killed himself. The youngest is 12 years old. She is devastated. There was no joy in his life. Funeral was today. How do you answer the questions? His sister is devastated.
We are God's children. Jesus is our life preserver. Let's pray for the family.
We are safe in God's hands. When we pray for someone we invite God's Holy Spirit into their lives.
We cry for the bereaved. Peace comes in pieces. An hour here and there.
Joy is difficult. Sometimes in pain we get a glimpse of joy. We don't understand why we have to go through the pain.
One day we will know why - in the meantime we trust that it's not for nothing.

Plett Reunion 2012
What of the future?
It's been a severe pleasure to get together this weekend.
Psalm 78 we will tell our children about God's grace. Notice the links from the past and assurance for the future. David remembered the deliverance through the Red Sea.
The person who lives only for himself does not know his past or his future. What is ahead for us?
Death for sure - most of us here are from 30-49 years old. Most of us are over the hill. In 10 years the oldest cousins will be over 70 years old. Of the 79 grandchildren none have lost their spouses.
When we are on our deathbed will we wish we had one more cow? We are likely to say why did I not spend more time with my family and in prayer? What did uncles Walter Abe Ben say on their death beds? Holding fast to the faith.
Why are there so many happy marriages in our circle? Not by accident - our forefathers lived by faith in Prussia. Then 200 years ago the Kleinegemeinde started with a concern for piety. He noticed that the young girls of the community were becoming worldly.
Klaas Reimer said: God never intended for our elders to fight for land in St Petersburg.
He read and studied and loved the Bible. The Bible was kept in the center of their lives.
Grandpa read Psalm 121 before leaving on the journey to the new land.
In the boondocks of the Philippines the women are now singing because they are happy knowing the God of the Bible.
What if judgement, hell, heaven is real? Will we be ready?

Plett Reunion 2012 History of Faith
Walter (Plett) Reimer from Belize
Abraham lived his faith. God had promised him a family. When God sent him one son he obeyed God. When God asked him to sacrifice Isaac to prove his love for God. Abraham packed his knife and fire in obedience.
Hebrews 11 has a long list of people of faith.
Because of their faith our family forefathers moved from place to place to find freedom of worship.
In 1530 Menno Simons started preaching conversion from Catholicism and adult baptism. We are called Mennonites after him. Too many people think they can rely on that name for salvation. They need personal faith in God. Klaas Reimer got baptized at age 20 but lived a reckless life. He got married at 28 and began to think about his soul. His wife was 38 when they got married and 6 years later they had their first child. When he got elected as a preacher he felt he wasn't smart enough. His child was 2 years old when his wife died. He re-married a 20 year old. They had 10 children of which most died in childhood.
He felt the church was too worldly so they split and formed the small church or Kleingemeinde. That was a hard transition.
Should everyone start their own church? No- but we should live by faith.
Our forefathers moved to Canada in 1875 and some moved to Mexico in 1948 and then some of those moved to Belize a few years later. To live their faith. Where would be if they had failed to follow God's direction.
I wish we could all believe in Jesus and trust him to be our savior so we can go to heaven.
2 Cor 13:5 Check yourselves are you standing in Jesus?

The One Ring! Believing in the ONE
www.eastview.org Watch this sermon on-line and tell me what I missed!
The music today was worth the trip. Music that leads to worship THE God who is worthy. Thanks Steve.
Choir: Amazing Grace - I once was lost but now I'm found. Grace has brought me here and it will lead me to my heavenly home. (grateful tears)
Lord of the Rings theme music
Series on Marriage and relationships -
In LOTR the king dies. He is OK with it. Regardless of the cost the people are willing to die because it is their calling to light to free their world.
How does that apply to marriage? God calls 2 people together to do what they could not do alone.
Abraham was promised God's care and nations of descendents. But by Gen 18 they are laughing at God. If we are not careful we can lose our purpose.
Money Sex and Power are the anti-trinity and they will let you down.
Drama: Couple living by default. Always promise too much. Words wear out. I can change and be new and improved. If you could why didn't you?
God is not asking us to live by default. Good house car kids. Turn to the one that can give us purpose. Nicole - husband and wife - submit to one another out of respect for Christ. Empty yourself. Die to yourself. To your expectations. Before they got married Nicole said: Dave - I have no expectations for you as a husband.
What is having a purpose as a couple? Look for a job? No, get to know God. Paul had accomplished so much but he said he regarded his accomplishments as loss for the priviledge of knowing God. Being deliberate in knowing God. In 18 years of marriage we have figured out how to do prayer and Bible reading. We figured it out when we each developed our own devotional habits. Decided to meet before bedtime to pray together. Waiting in prayer helped us stop and wait for God. God expands our capacity for ministry. Purpose.
Don't expect to do the Couple's devotional book together.
Had a messy job opportunity and wanted to say no but then they each heard from God to persevere through this job. It has not been easy. But they were together on this.
Be deliberate in finding God's purpose. He cares profoundly.

MB MB Conference at NK MB
MB= Mennonite Brethren
MB= Manitoba
NK= North Kildonan
When we walked in we soon discovered an awful racked call to worship by an ego maniac who called his group the Unleashed Band. We walked out and waited for 50 minutes before that horrible noise stopped.
David Balzer hosted a story telling feature. One lady had got pregnant and got big so fast they thought she was having twins. It turned out she also had cancer. They had a serious prayer meeting and she was healed and delivered a healthy baby. She is now teaching Sunday School.
The most important job is to pray. Pray for pastors -Keith Poysti
The noise band did another Noise session they called Song of Reflection.
John Smed The Prayer Man. Started Grace Vancouver Church and Woodgreen Presbyterian Church and www.PrayerCurrent.com
Waiting in prayer is the Secret of Power
Waiting means
1. As we wait - We wait for God - they had just spent 40 days
Waiting is a fullness an expectation eager waiting - the apostles were charged up ready to tell the world - God said wait. Wait till you get the power
Waiting is Christian practice Augustine said as we wait we increase our capacity for God - more fullness for God.
If your life is longing for God you are waiting in prayer. It takes 25 minutes of prayer to feel God amongst us.
Spend time asking God to increase our capacity for God to be amongst us. Do not leave but wait- God has more in store if you wait. There is only one cardinal sin - impatience. That's what drove us out of paradise. Franz Kafka
Waiting is opening up to God to discover his Lordship. Pray the Lord of the harvest for more laborers. They will come if we pray. If you think you have to be at the centre of activity
In 1727 Count Zindendorf said we prayed and the Holy Spirit took control and that started a 100 year prayer meeting.
2. In waiting we obey
3. We wait for the promise of Spirit Power - the 10 day prayer meeting. Only a few weeks later Peter and John faced the same judges Jesus faced. A few weeks later 1000s of people accepted Christ.
Today the fastest growing religion in Canada is non- religion. No one has seen or heard how God hears and acts for those who wait for him.
4. We uncover the greater plan of God. Disciples asked are you going to establish right wing political power? There had been 1000 years of no evidence of the Spirit of God. All of a sudden each believer was filled with the Holy Spirit
5. As we wait we pray. It is finding out what God wants today. To uncover the resurrection power of God. Our prayers extend the bow string of God. Keep waiting on Him and the arrow will fly
Communion - the Lord's Table. Jesus came to suffer and die to pay for my sins and transgressions. Eat this bread and drink this cup in remembrance of Jesus' shed blood
The racket band came to play a few nice numbers during communion.
Jesus You stood before my failure. What could I say, what could I do, but to offer my heart to you?

Winnipeg Film Festival
www.WinnipegFilmFestival.com
Real to Reel Feb 21-26
A real opportunity to see a variety of films from around the world.
The first film we saw was The Marriage Retreat, a humorous attempt to teach 3 couples how to get along
What If - the story of an executive who gets stopped by an angel (Cliff from Cheers) and his life is turned around - good quality and good story.
We went to "Through a Glass Darkly" about CS Lewis a Grief Observed
It didn't seem to be about that so we left.
Lion of Judah animated kids movie looks good, but we decided to go to Life Gets Better and Better the story of a 69 year old Austrian widow who takes care of 5,000 Ugandan children and travels to Europe with a choir - plenty of tension and laughs. Just say yes to God and you will be blessed
Eschatology End times
Jerusalem Countdown based on a book by Haggie
Good action Film lots of shooting and wrecked cars. Pure Flix Entertainment
Ordinary Joe - a carpenter Vietnam medic Vet goes to Vietnam every year and brings money and other assistance to people there. His translator travels with him. He took 40 children to lunch for 4,000,000 Viet$
The Viet people love him because they know he cares. He goes to the same village every trip.
He meets all kinds of poor people gives them an aspirin and a few dollars and moves on. But it makes them very happy.

1st Sunday of Lent
4 years ago we were in NYC on Ash Wednesday. Many people spent the day with an ash spot on their foreheads. It was a big deal!
4 years ago today we spent the day in ICU hoping Renee's heart would not stop now.
www.EastView.org Del Enns Pastor:
The One: Part 2 The Passive or Controlling One
This is the 2nd sermon in this series.
1st message was on Jacob and his desire for the perfect wife. God desires us to have or craving for love. The perfect lover is Jesus.
Our needs can only be met by Jesus. Leah the ugly wife become the mother of Judah the ancestor of Jesus
God is capable of turning ugly things unto beauty.
During the era of the kings
1st Kings 21:25
How many men are aggressive at work and timid at home? How many women would like to control their husbands? How many wives would like their husbands to be the spiritual leader?
King Ahab was a strong man on the battlefield but followed his wife into evil. No self-control and weak on character. He beat 21 kings in a battle. But he failed to fulfil God's mandate in his life. His idol worshipping wife led him astray.
The lack of spiritual leadership in the home hurts our society.
When the prophet Elisha condemned him he went pouting home to his wife. His neighbour had a good vineyard. He wanted it for a vegetable garden. Why does the king worry about vegetables? When the owner refuses to sell it Ahab goes home and pouts. Jezebel the mother hen decides to solve the weak king's problem. None of us is free of guilt shame
Rom 5:6 Christ came and died for us. God sent his son for this moment. To give identity to those who have none. He gave himself so we con have life.
As you receive communion let God speak to you of his love.
I'll stand with arms high and heart abandoned in awe of the one who gave his all
Ahab and Jezebel. Men have a hard time admitting weaknesses- ladies can build them up. Speak words of encouragement and love.
If you have a type A personality pray that God will give you the space to let God change your partner. Men love your wives. Lead your family to Christ. Worship the only true God. Men: pray for strength to lead.
Ladies - pray for insight to allow your man to lead you.

Last Sunday
On the way to my parents for lunch we listened to Dr Keller's message on Eph 3:1-13 A Foretaste of the Future
Click here to listen to it
At the end of the visit my sister wanted me to help her with her email issues. When I tried to show her how, she became a hissing cat and sent us fleeing out of there. Not a good way to end a visit.
