Testimony of couple just married - and Steve fell into deep depression till he went to see the doctor. Still fighting the issues - but there is hope.
Godly Christ following people fall into cavernous depression - Jeremiah's name means exalted. For 20 years he preached and was ignored. He wrote Lamentations - God broke my bones and buried me in a dark place. My suffering is bitter beyond words. I grieve my losses. I wish I had never been born.

#1 Words for the Wind
Do you intend to reprove my words when the words of one in despair belong to the wind Job 6.26 God this is your fault. Let the wind blow those words away. Chew on gravel. God does not strike Jeremiah dead for what he said. Do not judge the people in pain.
He stumbles and says wait patiently.

I will dare to hope in God. He will rescue me.
Armon's father dug for hours through the rubble of the earth quake.
Sue Courtney: as a nurse I made a mistake and my fear grew. It took control of my life and it paralyzed me. Became obsessive compulsive. It became irrational following the voices in my head. Only John knew. Finally went to a psychologist. The outside changed. A few years later decided to see a Christian Counselor. Got to understand the why but not what till John taught a class on the book of Romans. Finally God got-through.

2 There is great power in God's Word to us! Ask God: what are you saying?
3 God is our Jehovah Rophe He is our healer -seek professional help but God is our healer.
For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future! Jeremiah 29:11
God has great plans for us. He is our healer. God is our hope.

They do this to induce an altered state of consciousness so they can feel closer to God. Too bad Jesus didn't have a P.A. system like that. Maybe the Pharisees would hive liked him better had they also felt closer to God.

Born a fanatic Muslim studied engineering. Decided to read Koran objectively. But what is life? Get a house a bigger house the best job and the best funeral.
Started reading the Bible. Thought he could read it in a few days. Got stuck in Matthew. Who is Jesus? Went to a church asked the pastor a few questions and became a Christian when Jesus entered his life.
In every crisis God works.
Islam is the Greatest Political Challenge. A real threat. Muslims are taking over wherever they go. Ezekiel 38 says they will unite to fight Israel. Iranian Government is the greatest threat to the world. Their theology says if you have a bomb use it. That will hasten the coming of the Messiah.
God has given us power. Love is best antidote to the spirit of Islam. Kindness and love will defeat them.
Jesus is appearing to them and bringing them to faith.
If you don't reach out to them they will kill you.
Satan is holding them captive. If you question Islam you can be killed.
Many are crying out for salvation. 30 Muslims at a time are being converted. It used to be that a missionary could convert 10 Muslims in a lifetime.
In Islam honor killing is the law. That's an oppressive religion. God give me your heart for the lost. You can touch them with the love of God.
When one family member comes to Christ they all do. People are healed. People are brought back to life. Have you read your Bible?
They prayed for a dying man over the phone. 1/2 hour later they called back. Our friend is alive Jesus healed him.
Jesus is revealing himself to them. People are changed. Iran has more drug addictions than any other country. Jesus is healing their addictions.
Sound Mind. We have to be wise. Satellite TV is cost effective - it has become the national flower of Iran. The first paycheck went to buy a satellite dish. The family needs hope 1st food 2nd.
Iran is a blueprint for the failure of Islam. 33 years of Islamic rule. Islam is the Problem- the source of their misery. Iran has the fastest growing evangelical growth in the world.
Campus pastor says God is moving in Iran. What matters is that people are coming to Christ. God doesn't need me but he wants to use me to reach out to others. Doing nothing is not an option. Come back with stories of what God has done.

From north Sudan came to Canada knew only 2 English words. At a funeral he said: Sorry your father kicked the bucket
Grew up with a camel trader father. Memorized the Koran from cover to cover. Got sent to the city for more education and advised to burn the Christians before they burn you. Joined Muslim brotherhood at University. Found a friend who talked to him about Jesus. Beat him up. He invited a preacher to speak about the Bible. When the preacher had so many people coming to hear him they decided to kill one of the Christians. They went in to kill but they beat up the wrong guy. He survived.
The brotherhood confessed the beating. No one was punished.
When he got a job as an accountant his company put on a party where they served alcohol. He drank some without knowing what it was. Now he was unclean. When he went to the mosque he made the announcements. His cousin announced that he had been polluted. He got beaten up by 800 people in the mosque.
For 40 days he was not allowed to touch the Koran.
One of the co-workers invited him to a disco. Every 4o days he touched wine so he would not be able to go back to the mosque.
He had changed. When his Christian friend came to visit he was eager to hear about Jesus forgiving sins. "God asked me to ask you to come to Church"
He went. It was a prayer meeting. People asked for prayer that they might love those who mistreated them. He volunteered to help the Christians kill their oppressors. They said no, Jesus said love your enemies.
He thought they might be crazy. They lent him a Bible. He read it all night. He kept asking how an you practice this book?
He got invited to a revival meeting. After the meeting he was challenged to accept Christ. He said Never!
He got invited to visit a lady who was burned by the Muslims. She had forgiven her torturers.
Finally he was ready to ask Jesus into his heart and be his helper. When he opened his eyes he thought he would look like a Christian. Nothing changed. Except he had great peace. He got kicked out. Friend said are you better than Jesus? Welcome to Christianity. He got beat up. Arrested and beaten. Judge demanded they renounce Christianity. He and 2 other friends were sentenced to death. One each Friday. Each one said: Jesus! Here I come! before they died. When the next Friday came Libya attacked and the prisoners escaped. He ran to the burnt lady. She adopted him and changed his name.
PBI had a scholarship. Started churches in Calgary. Joined missions and 700 people were baptized in a few years. Many of them are now in prisons.
Got invited to baptize 2 sisters. They got badly beaten by their uncle. They said we are now true Christians.
Can you stand up and say "send me!"

Riverwood - Depression?
What's with the depression angles? EastView is into a mind control theme. We've been listening to Dr Keller's www.Redeemer.com messages on Ephesians. This morning we listened to his exposition of the 1st verses of chapter 3. I'll see if l can post that message here.

They started off with some drum numbers by the 5 drummergirls.
The theme today is The Darkest Hour.

Exalt the Lord our God and worship at his feet. For He is holy (repeat 100 times)
No one else is worthy of our praise. God we do not deserve what you lavish on us.
Lot's of opportunity at this church to participate. Financial university. Truth project etc. Saturday morning men's breakfast.
What does it look like getting stuck in depression? Fudge enjoyment? Give up? Stuck in bad habits & addictions? Eat purge? Change? Is life over?
Can you identify with that?
Hare you ever felt trapped? Struggled with mental health? Despair? Hope or hopelessness? Mental illness?
One thing - God is in the darkness. His followers experience darkness and despair. We are not immune to darkness.
Ps 88 David wrote about depression. My soul is full of trouble. In the darkest pit. I'm almost dead. Do the dead praise God? Why do You reject me? The darkness has become my closest friend.
Why is it so hard to feel God's presence? WW2 pilots needed light so they could land on the carrier. But the carrier could not turn on the lights for fear of attack. The pilots perished. Sometimes it feels like God has rejected us.
I do not know how long you will have to endure the darkness but God is in the darkness. Ps 39 if I have to go through hell on earth God is there.
Neither death nor demons can separated us from the love of Jesus. God is in the middle of your darkness.
Exodus 20:21 the Israelites ran away from an encounter with God. And Moses went into the thick darkness to meet God. That's where to draw near to God. The empty black hole. A professor lost his wife daughter and mother in one night. The quickest way to get to the sunlight is to go into the darkness. Tell someone about your darkness. Even in hell on earth God is there. Share your story.
Listen to Stephanie's story. My fog. Post partum depression is so common. To feel nothing. Talk to a counselor. Fight through it.
There are no easy answers to snap out of depression.
The acacia tree grows in the desert. It goes dormant and looks dead when there is no moisture. When the rain comes it comes back to life even after many years. God makes rivers in the desert and streams in the wasteland.
Walk into the darkness. We don't know how long it will take before sunrise. There are no easy answers.
Pray with someone today. The midst of the darkness is not without hope.

Let's talk about our feelings. Mom's are looking for baby sitters.
Feelings spring from images. Cross=pain love sacrifice. Coffee mug: ?
We all need transformation -new neural networks. We can't do that of ourselves. We need God outside of us. A new foundation - God starts with our emotions. People have a huge range of emotions. Often our feelings make our decisions for us. We purchase impulse items. We often make decisions on feelings. Feelings are often bad decision makers. Feelings make us want more and more. People who are adicted to love will switch partners often. Good marriages must work it out.
When we are angry we see everything through angry filters. God wants to give us new lenses - love joy hope peace.
Eph 3:14-21 that Christ may dwell in your hearts in love. Agape love - seeking the best for others. The new lens disarms my feelings and creates healthy feelings. Seeking the best for others with no benefit to me. Christ does that.
Unless you have that love getting rooted in your heart you can't really change. Understand how big this love is.
Recognize your brokeness and find peace instead of failure.
Rom 5:1-5 justified by faith we have peace with God. No longer based on emotions but what God can do in me. Boast in my sufferings? Because of hope? God's love poured into our hearts.
God can do far more in our lives. Give a new reason for living.
End this service in prayer. Stay and pray as long as you need.

How many of us have broken our New Year's resolution?
The brain registers repeated activity and lays down a neural network so that you can do it automatically without thinking. You can't smell the odor in your own house. Kids learning to ride a bike don't know the specifics of how they learn to ride. Once they know how to ride they'll never forget. The network is there. Learn to play the piano and you can do it therafter.
Evil networks are never forgotten either. Former Alcoholics are always only recovering because the bad network will always be there.
For true transformation we need someone outside of us to help us change.

Dr Gerald May: no matter how much grace God has blessed us with we need his continuous flow.
Jer 31 - the days of the new Covenant are coming

Jeremiah 29:7. God had not forgotten the exiles. Seek the welfare of the city of Babylon where I have sent you.
1. God is concerned about cities because there are so many people. God loves them.
2. God has placed you here. Sent you here to bless you here. The Sovereign Lord who counts the stars placed you here by divine appointment. No matter your situation God brought you here. Not a coincidence - it is God's will. Good acceptable and perfect.
3. Seek the welfare of the city - the health blessing and safety. All the people - God's heart has always been for the nations. Prayer is the 1st resort. In time of trouble.
In 1857 a preacher announced a prayer meeting. Soon 10,000 business men prayed one hour a day. Soon millions were converted. Brother Andrew started a prayer circle - within 7 years communism fell. When we rely on prayer we rely on what God can do. The power of God for salvation. Heralding gossiping the good news. Live it.
Working together in unity. There is one church in Winnipeg. We want our city blessed. The love of Jesus to every corner of the city.
Todd Petkau - Communion specifically for Christ's followers. Think of The Upper Room. 2 people preparing. Frantic chaotic. The Passover Meal the Seder- 15 steps. Jesus broke the order and washed the disciples feet. Then Jesus said the bread and wine represented him. They were shocked. "My blood poured out for you?" They did not understand until much later. The bond that binds us is Jesus.
Let him rock our world.
Worthy is the Lamb that sits on the throne that was slain. Holy holy is the Lord God Almighty. I will adore you.

Lieutenant Governor's New Year Levee
Entertainment included Westwood Community Band, Lion Dance, Renaissance Voices, and Bison Men's choir.
Refreshments in the Rotunda and sleigh rides outside. Nice way to spend New Year's day.

The infant Jesus belongs to the whole world. He was a gift to us. 1st born boys belonged to God and the parents had to pay to redeem them. That boy-child of Mary is our brother.

Tending the New Year
Nobody wants to hold on to the old year. A baby represents a new beginning. Simeon waited for the Messiah the Consolation of Israel. Mary was shocked when the old man took her baby and said he was the Messiah.
This was a much more Messiah than she had imagined. A sword will pierce your own soul also. Maybe she wanted to snatch him back.
Sometimes struggles have to come. The butterfly dies if she is helped out of the cocoon.
Mary's influence would have been profound in Jesus life but she allowed him to grow into what God wanted for him. We could respond with fear or, joy and trust. God is still in charge.
May we go into this new year tending it in faith. Nothing in all creation can separate us from the love of God.
God has promised to be with us.

Luke 2:13 a new star
A Baby- Welcome to our world - Tears are falling hearts are breaking Bring your peace into our violence Fragile finger sent to heal us.
How does the story end? This is just the beginning. It leads to another finale. Baby Jesus sent to heal us. They crucified him. He is risen. His life leads to your life. Choose your own ending. Baby? Personal God?
The sun has arisen in heavenly glory to God be the glory. The heavenly Son has come Changes night into day.
One of the ironies of this season is that it lasts but for a moment. Is there a perfect moment? Change is hard to do. That's why Jesus came. It leads Him to the cross.
This joy can last and be the normal for my life. God is with us. Change is possible when God is with you. You are invited to be with God. God chose you to be part the changes He wants to bring to this world.
We want to be part of what God is doing in this world. Help in Thailand, at Forward House, and the Tyndale Church. You are invited to be part of this.
Sing the Hallelujah chorus with us.

Come and worship
It came upon the midnight clear to hear the angels sing Peace will come over all the earth and it will give back the song which now the angels sing
Children sang: Unto us a child is given Wonderful Counselor the mighty God the Everlasting Father The Prince of Peace. Unto us a son is given.
Mary's Song: My soul glorifies the Lord.
Hark the herald angels sing Glory to the new born King. Veiled in flesh the incarnate Deity.
Joy to the world the Lord has come.
Luke 1: Zachariah and Elizabeth had no children. 18,000 priests worked in the temple. He was chosen by lot to do the ceremony. A once in a lifetime opportunity. Then he meets the angel. God had been silent for 400 years. He froze. "You will have a son. He will be filled with the Holy Spirit." He responded in unbelief- how can this be? My wife is old.
God said: "Watch! I'm going to do something unbelievable."
God is a God of action. Z was comfortable with the presence of God. He was not so comfortable with what God was going to do. We tend to be uncomfortable with what God wants to do. Z used fear to filter what God was saying. We tend to do that too. We struggle with decisions.
Luke 1: We meet Mary. They were in the engagement period. An angel shows up. Her response was not fear. She was perplexed disturbed and confused. A bit scared. "How can this be? I'm a virgin." For her to get pregnant she was to become an outcast.
God works with the despised in society. Would we accept her in our church?
The Spirit challenges us to accept what God is doing. Are we willing to do what God is doing? Mary stood at the cross And she understood why he had to die.
"Here I am, a servant of the Lord." Trust. That's where change starts.
Z and Mary were both asked to trust God. God will bring it to completion -do you trust Him enough to keep following Him?
So much of the season is so inward focussed it is hard to be part of something bigger.
We want to raise funds for:
1. Church plant in Tyndale
2. A new van for Forward House
3. Flood relief for Thailand
The advent appeal is above the church budget.
Can we buy one less gift for ourselves and give to others?

Do you see what I see? a star? Do you hear what I hear? A song high above the clouds with a voice as big as the sea. A child shivers in the cold, let us bring him silver and gold. He will bring as goodness and light.

I bring an offering of worship to my king The sun cannot compare to your glory
All praise and thanks to God (with beautiful musical accompaniment)

Thy will be done on earth as in heaven. What would it look like if we actually lived God's will? It's not easy
I am pulled in so many directions. Why? It will make me happy?
Let's get plugged into the Holy Spirit
The Spirit factor: Uncontrollable Joy
When I'm not plugged in everything will fail to bring real joy.
I love water skiing. Tried to ski on one ski and it did not work until someone said put the prop deeper. They needed more power.
A row boat will not work.
Hooked up - to the source of power. That makes all the difference.
But I need to be thirsty for the Living water that only Jesus can give us.
Acts 1:8 You will receive power. When? When I'm done with my own (row boat) power
When we are hooked up to God's power we can have that inexpressible joy.
You will walk through dark tunnels. You will get angry. Why does that baby have to cry for 13 hours in the plane to Thailand? Why do I get angry?
While we feel the tension the Holy Spirit is hovering right there. There is a river that flows. Are you planted near the river? The HS wants to flow through you to others.
the HS may be prompting us but we ignore it. Because we had too many bad habits etc.
Plugged in leads to follow him.
Isaiah - bring good news to the poor. Survey of 100 year old people said they would have liked to risk more and do more things that would have eternal benefits.
Lighthouse ministry in Thailand attracts Burmese refugees. Maw is one of those who got baptized 2 weeks ago. She felt Jesus' kiss on her forehead and was overjoyed at the forgiveness she received.
God wants us each to be a river of blessing to others.

Today will be a time of songs sharing communion baptism
Several semi-trailers full of Christmas Shoe boxes left Eastview this week.
Dinner theatre was a phenomenal and remarkable event.
5 testimonies:
L Friesen: teaching the kids at Eastview helped me grow. God has not gone anywhere. I want to baptized.
W. Penner: I accepted Jesus at an early age. I grew up with 2 older siblings. That made me feel insignificant and alone. Went on a SOAR trip to the inner city. Been on 3 mission trips and each trip has drawn me closer to God. I trust God and request baptism today
Jeanette Krahn: born in Paraguay
Had a bad group of friends, went on SOAR 2011 and grew. Got 2 God visions. Now I want to be baptized
A Balichowski married 10 years. Baptized at EKMB
came to church hour of prayer. Had a daughter. Aug 10 dad had cancer Lots of people kept praying
Signed up to pray for Thailand and really found God.
Every human being has a God shaped Vacuum. Lord I believe, help me to overcome my unbelief.
Avery Koop: Become Christian at age 4 and this summer discovered God can be trusted. Now have been consumed by the love of Christ and now I want to serve God. I love the Lord Jesus so much and I'm so excited to follow Him.
Song: Make me a vessel of mercy.

Oh come all ye faithful Glory to God. O come let us adore Him.
Come thou long expected Jesus.
Emmanuel God incarnate here to dwell The Son of God born to bleed. Praise His name
Pastor Del was in Thailand last Sunday. Had lurch with the Church there after baptism. We are part of the family of God. We covenant to walk together and support our new members. Pray for them one by one. Pray for growth. Guidance and protection rejoicing and weeping together. Willingness to testify
Be joyful always give thanks
Lord's Supper. What a good way to end such a celebration
Surely God is my salvation. With joy I will drink from the wells of salvation.
Bread symbolizes Jesus' broken body and the fruit of the wine to symbolize the blood of Christ.
O come O cone Emmanuel Rejoice Rejoice. May envy strife and quarrels cease.

Calvary Temple The Christmas Prayer
They love very loud operatic yodeling. Their audio quality - not so good.
The story line is of the snotty rich lady during The Depression who hates the filthy little kids across the street in shanty town. Then her parents tell her about the poverty they lived in. How they shielded her from the hardships. Through it all I thank God for what he has done. I've learned to depend upon His Word. We love you and our heavenly Father loves you even more. Talk to Him.
Sometimes we carry the burdens of our actions. We need to lay them at Jesus' feet.
We pray for healing. We doubt your goodness we doubt your love.
I had to plug my ears for that song - way too loud.
Pain is God's megaphone. Things that you thought were out if control have brought you to this place. Raindrops of despair can become raindrops of blessings.
How do you go through 3 years of hell and not become a skeptic?
Christmas day the rich family has a good breakfast and Mrs Snotty decides to share her rich Christmas dinner with a poor family. They make up and everyone is happy.
Really good children's choir. Not such a good duet.
