The Jonah story

I missed 2 weeks of church. 2 weeks ago I was as sick as I've ever been. Last week we traveled to Toronto. I'm just getting over this flu

Yesterday and Friday we spent 16 hours in lectures at Southland mega church in Steinbach with their SetFree course.

How do I hear God?
See ourselves as people God wants to communicate with.

God and Jonah had an interesting relationship. God was willing to work with him even though Jonah didn't appreciate it.

Jonah 3.10 and 4. Jonah was angry. God was too nice as far Jonah was concerned. He'd rather die than see God be merciful to Nineveh. It was such a sinful place.

Then God said to Jonah, "Is it right for you to be angry because the plant died?"

"Yes," Jonah retorted, "even angry enough to die!" (Jonah 4:9)

Then the LORD said, "You feel sorry about the plant, though you did nothing to put it there. It came quickly and died quickly. (Jonah 4:10)

God allowed compassion to override justice.

God asked Jonah: But Nineveh has more than 120,000 people living in spiritual darkness, people who don't know their right hand from their left. not to mention all the animals. Shouldn't I feel sorry for such a great city?" (Jonah 4:11)

Communion.
Dear friends, since God loved us that much, we surely ought to love each other. (1 John 4:11)

This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins. (1 John 4:10)

Listen Hear

Since the beginning of time humans have tried to communicate with the metaphysical.

We naturally sense that there is something greater out there. God is not far. Christmas highlights that. God talks to Mary Joseph wise men shepherds

We all want to hear from God. But then we don't know if we really want to.
Over the next month we want to explore talking & listening.

Jonah is an example to explore. How does his relationship with God work?

It's a story where no one does what they are supposed to do except God and the fish.

Jonah 1 (dove son of truth)
Tried to get away from God. The Word of the Lord came. .. a message from God

God told me... is so misused. In the old Testament prophets were in clear communication with God mostly about things in the near future. Joel 2 the people will prophesy. It is all of our jobs to speak to other people to build the church.

How do I hear from God? He is still talking. Are we listening? We are hearing from God more than we think we are!

Jonah got the message. 
"Get up and go to the great city of Nineveh. Announce my judgment against it because I have seen how wicked its people are." (Jonah 1:2)

But Jonah got up and went in the opposite direction to get away from the LORD. He went down to the port of Joppa, where he found a ship leaving for Tarshish. He bought a ticket and went on board, hoping to escape from the LORD by sailing to Tarshish. (Jonah 1:3)

Hatred was the operative word between the Israelites and Ninevites. Jonah could not stomach the idea of going to Nineveh.

Why do we want to hear from God?

God wants to give us a new lens. Transformation takes time.

Waiting

A miracle happened. Mark was healed of prostate cancer. He is willing to pray for you. Prayer for Morgan who is going on DTS in Maui.

2015 is just around the corner. Spent 3 days in Ottawa. Prayed with the politicians. Met with the Prime Minister. Asked him about the shooting. Spiritual epiphany? Leave or be concealed. 8 hours of waiting hiding. Am I at peace with God? Yes. Prayed for him.

Delbert wished for tinker toys. Got pajamas. Disappointed.

What I want and wish for I want soon or it becomes an ordeal.

The Jewish nation waited thousands of years for liberation.

Diedrich Bonnhoffer waited for his door of freedom to be opened from the outside. He could not open the door himself.
Jesus came into the world and opened the door for us.

Nelson Mandela knew he had to leave his bitterness behind if he wanted to be free.

Simeon in Luke 2:25 was waiting and did not get edgy.

Marianne went to Calgary to visit her dad. So Delbert was all alone on Christmas day. He got edgy.

Simeon waited expectantly. Patiently.  You have to work at waiting. When God steps into our waiting things happen differently than we expect. Anna spent all day every day praying expectantly.

If astonishment and wonder don't overcome you, you missed the point.

Since God did not spare his only son he will give us much more.
Russian nesting doll. Another gift inside the next. 10 in total.
Accept the greatest gift. Receive it and you can give. When you accept Jesus you can accept many more gifts from Him!
Has your identity been taken away? Jesus wants to give a new identity. A new person. God's gift will not disappoint us.
Christmas. Profoundly quiet.
A new family.
Mom, did you want me? Yes, you became part of us. 3 kids in 2.5 years.

Christmas. The story of destiny. Nothing lasted at our house. We took it all apart.

Years ago a man had a collection of art. His son died in the war. Christmas day there was a knock on the door. A soldier friend delivered a portrait of his son. He really appreciated that painting.

When his estate was auctioned no one wanted that painting. Finally a neighbour bid $10. The auction was over. He got the whole estate.

Receive the gift of Jesus.

The gift of carrying joy

Psalm 16:1-11 NIV

I say of the holy people who are in the land, "They are the noble ones in whom is all my delight." Those who run after other gods will suffer more and more. I will not pour out libations of blood to such gods or take up their names on my lips. Lord , you alone are my portion and my cup; you make my lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; surely I have a delightful inheritance. I will praise the Lord , who counsels me; even at night my heart instructs me. They exuded joy when they got the good news of great joy. The shepherds help us understand joy.

The least often carry the most joy. They have nothing to lose.

King Herod was not happy. Responds with fear! With a new king born he responded with horrible cruelty.
If we want joy we need wonder and hope.
Adults tend to be sceptical and cautious and lose wonder and joy.
Faith in the resurrection God brings joy.
Paul and Silas are tortured in Acts 16. They were praying and singing praise to God when all the doors were opened and chains fell off.

Philippians 4:4-8 NIV

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.   Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

Carry Joy with faith. Enjoy God's gifts.

The gift of hungering. 3rd advent

We want to unwrap the gift that is being offered. We all have a trait of being nosey or compassionately interested. Capable of interjection of wisdom into other's conversations. Grandma's mind was so curious to the end wanting to know everything that was going on. The gift of wanting to know more. The gift of longing.

The story of the Magi. They were curious. Hungering for knowledge. They were willing to travel for 2 years to find the new born king.

WWJD was a 1990s fad. What would Jesus do in this situation? When are you going to do what Jesus would do?
Are we in an ivory tower? Stagnant and unsatisfied?
Do we want something we know we shouldn't want? Do we arrange our lives to satisfy our wants?
Jesus said blessed are you when you hunger and thirst for righteousness.

What are you hungry for?

The Wisemen worshipped Jesus. They were overwhelmed. That's the most important. They were prepared with good gifts.
Without hunger worship makes no sense. What you see is not what it is.
Not just information but an encounter with the living God. When you are flat on your face in front of the Living God it makes no difference whether you are singing a hymn or a corus!

I saw a strange sight. I stumbled upon a story most strange, like nothing my life, my street sense, my sly tongue had ever prepared me for.

Hush, child. Hush, now, and I will tell it to you.

Even before the dawn one Friday morning I noticed a young man, handsome and strong, walking the alleys of our City. He was pulling an old cart filled with clothes both bright and new, and he was calling in a clear, tenor voice: "Rags!" Ah, the air was foul and the first light filthy to be crossed by such sweet music.

"Rags! New rags for old! I take your tired rags! Rags!"

"Now, this is a wonder," I thought to myself, for the man stood six-feet-four, and his arms were like tree limbs, hard and muscular, and his eyes flashed intelligence. Could he find no better job than this, to be a ragman in the inner city?

I followed him. My curiosity drove me. And I wasn't disappointed.

Soon the Ragman saw a woman sitting on her back porch. She was sobbing into a handkerchief, sighing, and shedding a thousand tears. Her knees and elbows made a sad X. Her shoulders shook. Her heart was breaking.

The Ragman stopped his cart. Quietly, he walked to the woman, stepping round tin cans, dead toys, and Pampers.

"Give me your rag," he said so gently, "and I'll give you another."

He slipped the handkerchief from her eyes. She looked up, and he laid across her palm a linen cloth so clean and new that it shined. She blinked from the gift to the giver.

Then, as he began to pull his cart again, the Ragman did a strange thing: he put her stained handkerchief to his own face; and then HE began to weep, to sob as grievously as she had done, his shoulders shaking. Yet she was left without a tear."This IS a wonder," I breathed to myself, and I followed the sobbing Ragman like a child who cannot turn away from mystery.

"Rags! Rags! New rags for old!"

In a little while, when the sky showed grey behind the rooftops and I could see the shredded curtains hanging out black windows, the Ragman came upon a girl whose head was wrapped in a bandage, whose eyes were empty. Blood soaked her bandage. A single line of blood ran down her cheek.Now the tall Ragman looked upon this child with pity, and he drew a lovely yellow bonnet from his cart."Give me your rag," he said, tracing his own line on her cheek, "and I'll give you mine."

The child could only gaze at him while he loosened the bandage, removed it, and tied it to his own head. The bonnet he set on hers. And I gasped at what I saw: for with the bandage went the wound! Against his brow it ran a darker, more substantial blood – his own!

"Rags! Rags! I take old rags!" cried the sobbing, bleeding, strong, intelligent Ragman.The sun hurt both the sky, now, and my eyes; the Ragman seemed more and more to hurry."Are you going to work?" he asked a man who leaned against a telephone pole. The man shook his head.The Ragman pressed him: "Do you have a job?"

"Are you crazy?" sneered the other. He pulled away from the pole, revealing the right sleeve of his jacket – flat, the cuff stuffed into the pocket. He had no arm.

"So," said the Ragman. "Give me your jacket, and I'll give you mine."

Such quiet authority in his voice!

The one-armed man took off his jacket. So did the Ragman – and I trembled at what I saw: for the Ragman's arm stayed in its sleeve, and when the other put it on he had two good arms, thick as tree limbs; but the Ragman had only one."Go to work," he said.

After that he found a drunk, lying unconscious beneath an army blanket, and old man, hunched, wizened, and sick. He took that blanket and wrapped it round himself, but for the drunk he left new clothes.

And now I had to run to keep up with the Ragman. Though he was weeping uncontrollably, and bleeding freely at the forehead, pulling his cart with one arm, stumbling for drunkenness, falling again and again, exhausted, old, old, and sick, yet he went with terrible speed. On spider's legs he skittered through the alleys of the City, this mile and the next, until he came to its limits, and then he rushed beyond.

I wept to see the change in this man. I hurt to see his sorrow. And yet I needed to see where he was going in such haste, perhaps to know what drove him so.The little old Ragman – he came to a landfill. He came to the garbage pits. And then I wanted to help him in what he did, but I hung back, hiding. He climbed a hill. With tormented labor he cleared a little space on that hill. Then he sighed. He lay down. He pillowed his head on a handkerchief and a jacket. He covered his bones with an army blanket. And he died.

Oh, how I cried to witness that death! I slumped in a junked car and wailed and mourned as one who has no hope – because I had come to love the Ragman. Every other face had faded in the wonder of this man, and I cherished him; but he died. I sobbed myself to sleep.

I did not know – how could I know? – that I slept through Friday night and Saturday and its night, too.

But then, on Sunday morning, I was wakened by a violence.

Light – pure, hard, demanding light – slammed against my sour face, and I blinked, and I looked, and I saw the last and the first wonder of all. There was the Ragman, folding the blanket most carefully, a scar on his forehead, but alive! And, besides that, healthy! There was no sign of sorrow nor of age, and all the rags that he had gathered shined for cleanliness.

Well, then I lowered my head and trembling for all that I had seen, I myself walked up to the Ragman. I told him my name with shame, for I was a sorry figure next to him. Then I took off all my clothes in that place, and I said to him with dear yearning in my voice: "Dress me."

He dressed me. My Lord, he put new rags on me, and I am a wonder beside him. The Ragman, the Ragman, the Christ!

At the heart of Christianity we should be falling on our knees. God loves us more than we could ever understand. As long as we live outside God's plan we will never be free. Jesus takes the burden sin from us.
Stop! Focus! He was wounded for our transgressions. Share in the bread and fruit of the vine in remembrance. Fall on your knees. Eat and remember!

Do you have this gift of freedom?
It is trite this say Jesus gave me freedom but I do nothing.
The hope of restoration is for the whole world!
How does that change your celebrations?
When the son sets you free you are free indeed!

I worship Christ the coming King! My life is His alone.

1st Sunday of Advent. Preparing for the arrival. Anticipation. Stress. Dread. Excitement. Gifts. Tension. God with us. Salvation. A singular gift with many layers.
Lots of people are filled with fear. God says don't be afraid.
What decisions we make are based on fear? God gives us a gift of life without fear.
Is it worth fearing our fear?
Luke 1 26 In the sixth month of Elizabeth's pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a village in Galilee, 27to a virgin named Mary. She was engaged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of King David. 28Gabriel appeared to her and said, "Greetings, favored woman! The Lord is with you!

We don't want something new. Is the thing you fear really a threat?

Mary was on a normal trajectory of life as a Jewish teenager engaged to be married. She accepted God's interruption.
Mary accepted the new.

Mary had things to fear. Death shame dishonor. She was willing to let God be God.

A God initiated encounter always gets past the fear if we say yes to God. Do good instead of no harm.

Are you afraid of losing something of real importance? Don't be afraid. You are more valuable than MANY sparrows.

Is the thing you fear really powerful? Can it actually hurt you?

God's mercy goes from generation to generation.
There is nothing greater than God's ability to save. Why do I fear anything? God invites us to a life without fear.

Fear tolerance respect
There are some common goals all people. Help the Muslims so they ask why are you here? We are here because Jesus loves you.
Jesus is constantly challenging his disciples to help the disadvantaged.
A religious leader in Afghanistan said 1 of 70 women die in childbirth.
They put on a 17 week course to help. The leader said he would assure the safety of the workers.
In Mauritania they were advised to leave for safety. He called the chief imam and their safety was assured.
A boy was dying of aids. He loved spending time with Dave.
Jesus said bring the children to me. The poor ragged ones too.
Children have a voice that needs to be heard. You have to address their needs. It is transformative for us. Let my heart be broken with the things that break the heart of God.
Caring is not easy. 6.3 million children are dying from preventable diseases.
It is emotional. Jesus wept twice. Lazarus died. The community was morning. See how he loved him. God so loved us he gave his son. Tears are not enough. Do something! Do you love me? Go to work!
44 year old daughter in law has cancer. Son says God is good all the time.
By the rules of the universe we all have to die. Jesus broke that rule when he died for us!

Baptism Sunday. Outrageous Faith

15 new members joined www.EasTview.org today. 12 baptisms and 3 transfers!
Each candidate shared their faith journey with the church congregation. A packed building!
Then they were baptised on confession of faith in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
VERY ENCOURAGING!

Most of the baptismal candidates grew up in evangelical Christian homes. One came from a Catholic home. She was invited to church and youth group by an EasTview.org youth. Corie, the youth pastor did most of the baptisms.

Choir Song: I'm gonna to rise up singing gonna praise my Lord. Gonna praise my Lord on the mountain top until I drop.

The world has yet to see what God can do through a life totally committed to God.

Blessed be the name of the Lord! The name of the Lord is a strong tower the righteous run into it and they are saved.

Money

Money enhances character. We all have banks.  The bank deposit book shows where your heart is.
You are busy making money then you have to get busy spending money.  Then you have to get busy making more money then you have to get busy spending money.

Why?
If we don't have money we think God is not blessing us. If we pursued God instead of money, we would be successful. If you pursued God you would achieve significance.
When you pursue what God wants you to be,  you achieve significance.

When you pursue God you will be blessed to be a blessing!

Follow after God and the score card changes. Generosity is a heart issue, not a pocket book issue.

2 Cor 9 you reap what you sow. What have you decided to give. If God has 10% of your heart, you'll give 10%!?

How much of God is in your heart? Generosity is a gospel issue. Not a law.
Generosity is a gospel privilege. God is generous.
Generosity is an act of worship. Prov 3:9-10 your vats will run over with new wine. Give more get more is wrong.
Release to God out of gratefulnes.
Guilting people does not bring money. Thankfulness to God.
Being generous with money is dependant on how much of him is in it.
God does not need your money.

How do we live a generous life?
Heart checkup. How much of God is in you? Willingness to give cheerfully from the heart.
God wants to enjoy your grateful gift.
Don't write another cheque as taxes
Change your view of money. God uses money to spread the gospel. It is not the end goal but the means to reach others.

God has given everything.

Memorial service for Doris Plett (Harms)

Doris was born on September 10, 1951 passed away September 16, 2014.
1957 Leonard passed away. He was Doris's favorite brother.
Doris was a patient caregiver to her mom.
She married Burt in 72. They had 2 children Kelly and Sheree. In 2001 she was diagnosed with lymphoma. She was predeceased by her parents and 5 siblings and in-laws.

All her kids' friends loved her. She was a wonderful grandma. Being a mother isn't easy.
She loved working in the garden and baking lots of goodies. She was a hard working and a very loving mother.
She had a strong faith. She sang The Lord is my Shepherd for her grandchildren every day.
The cousins sang: The Lord is my Shepherd I'll walk with him always. A round song.

Tribute to Doris by Alviera Plett. Friendship that began in the early teens. Shared many previous times together. Ice cream. Spiced peanuts in Granville.

Did double dates. Shared many times together. Baked the best kiwi chocolate cake. One time the pancakes got burned.

She was a friend to older people and younger people. She always sent cards. One card says a true friend is forever.

She was a special friend. We all miss her.

Ottawa church was a giant urban church who now has 3 church plant couples starting inner city churches.

Our personal lives. 2 Cor 8 the church gave themselves generously. Jesus was rich and gave it up for us.

Generosity is not just about money. Unselfish. Large. Abundant as in slice of pie.
It's about a way of life rooted in the gospel. There is a generous person inside each of us. Genesis 1 we are made in the image of God. The family traits of God are in our DNA.
2. The gospel is a gospel of generosity. There is nothing we can do to help ourselves. We are born sinful. We don't have to teach children to sin. How can I get right with God? Can't be done by us. Jesus has done it for you.
The great exchange. The substitute is Jesus. That's outrageous generosity.

3. If you're not generous you don't get the gospel. Generous living is in Jesus. Generosity is there from cover to cover. God blesses so you can be generous.
The Jewish rules required people to take a lot of time off. So they could be generous. Jesus asked us to lay down our lives. So we can be blessed.
On our own we can't be generous. We need Jesus to make us generous.
Thanks be to God. He gave us the very best.

What are the barriers to release that generosity gene? You think you don't have enough? Check the widow's donation. Too old? Tell the 84 year old widow. Boca Roton church Spanish River Presbyterian planted 100s of new churches including 4 C2Cs in Canada.

Maybe your life is uneventful and discouraging. Community hekps you feel good. The life Jesus called us to live is so much more. Bad company corrupts. Find people who can encourage you. Surround yourself with people who build you up spiritually. Desire growth. Ask Jesus to reveal himself to you.
You are made for so much more! Surround yourself with people who care to help you achieve so much more in Jesus.
Let Jesus become greater in your life. We often live in mediocrity. Open your eyes to Jesus. Get a real encounter with Jesus.
2 Kings 6 the king was getting wire tapped. v15 they sent the best troops to capture Elisha. But Elisha said there are more on our side than theirs.

When you see the enemy ask the Lord to open your eyes to see the forces of God on your side.
The glory of God surrounds you.
When the eyes of the enemies were opened they had a feast and saw that there is only one living God in the world.
We need truth tellers in our lives. Eph 1:18 Paul prays for us too. We are children of the heavenly Father.
Elisha followed Elijah. What do you want from me? A double spirit of your power. Elisha struck the river and it parted. The 50 prophets were watching and realized that Elisha was the new prophet. You have loved ones watching you too. They will rejoice with you and your new power.

Share with one another. Pray that God will open your eyes to his love. Hold each other accountable. Celebrate the Lord's supper and invite your friends to come and share in this love.

All to Jesus I surrender. Let me know that I am yours.

Christ has called us to outrageous life.

Grew up in El Salvador
Raised by grandparents. Mom married again. He earned the right to go to psych ward by age of 12. Learned to live in a dreamworld.
Wrote a new book. Everyone is creative. Innovators are unmanageable.
Fill your life with action.
We all have a concert of voices in our head. They contradict each other.
Some of us have reinforcing voices but most don't.
Psychologists are often confused.

Talked to a group of investors about beauty and truth. The Artisan Soul book has a story about being thrown out of the house naked as a kid. Was ashamed. Why? Who told him to be ashamed? Adam and Eve had that experience.
They had the privilege of eating freely, naked, and unashamed.
God asked who told you that you are naked? What voice are you allowing to define you?

There are people who have their theology right but no relationship with Jesus. Jesus is the voice that speaks life into your soul.

Voices of failure kill you. The story you believe in your life. When you believe you have no value that will kill you.

Everything you do projects meaning. Why do we let the bad voices eat you?

What does God's voice sound like? Is it a parasite in your head?

A woman was caught in adultery. Jesus did not see her nakedness he saw her shame.

2000 years ago when God stepped into human history and offers us a life without shame. Why does Jesus have to die? There is a cure for every disease. Jesus is the cure for shame and death.

In L.A. all kinds of people attend Mosaic. I ask them and you to stand to say I want to give my life to Jesus tonight.

Community

2 Kings 6 - let's build a bigger school! Everyone cut down a tree. One guy lost his special axe in the river. Elisha threw a stick in the water and the axe floated. He told his student to go pick it up and be more careful. Story done. But he made the student go into the water to retrieve the axe head.
Gal 6:20 everyone helps each other to do what God wants us to do. Empower each other.

Community of Jesus is a community of recovery.
Luke 15 the woman found her lost coin and called her community to come celebrate.

God's community is not a community of efficiency. All belong. We support each other.

Eph 1.9, 10 God has revealed the mystery of his will. He wants to recover everyone. In Jesus people encountered the living love and grace of God. V20 God raised Jesus from the dead. The church now is the completeness of Christ. That is now the place of the community of believers, the church.

Do you encounter love and grace in the church? Do you find embrace? That is how we help each other.

Justification just as if I'd never sinned.
Out of the gift of grace God forgives and we want to live a life of love.
Reconciliation - a separation a brokenness that should be bought back together.
Reconciliation is only a Christian concept. The God of the universe wants to be friends with us.
God's love has been poured into our hearts. We often tune that out. Internal and external love.
While we were still sinners (enemies) (bad guys)Christ died for us!
There is no category for this kind of hero in human literature.
The God of the old Testament did a lot of slaying. Jesus said love is the real God.  Jesus shows us who God really is.
1. God has always been about self sacrifice
2. We have always been about self preservation
3. God works with us where we are it. Eg kings of Israel. Accommodation. God is good with a tent. David wanted a temple. God said ok then. God uses what people want. The old Testament should be read with tears. God hates a lot of the old Testament.
Does God love the rebellious child? Yes. God does not force you to attend the party. He invites you to come! He wants to make you his child.

Setbacks

Is it fair for mom to slave away preparing thanksgiving dinner and everyone gobbles it up before she has a chance to sit down? All she gets is left overs.

Sometimes we face setbacks. When 1+1=0

Following Christ is not a straight line. More like a zigzag.
Jesus must become greater and I must become less and less.

Where is God when nothing works? Friends let you down. Kids in trouble?

Elisha was a prophet and one of the students at the school died. The widow got in trouble.
Elisha said: what do you need? What do you have? Just some olive oil. He makes her do something. Borrow jars (become a begger) and pour oil to fill them all. Do something! Pray. NOW!

Knock and the door will be open. God wants us to beg.

The widow poured oil until all the jars were full. Now she had to go sell door to door.

The woman of Shunam has a son that died. She asked Elisha to come back. The boy comes back to life when Elisha does mouth to mouth.

Jesus come upon me and warm me up!

Essentials. Faith

Obedience helps our faith to grow. We need faith for obedience.
Humans live by faith. We have faith that people will stop at the red light. If we buy a can of tuna we have faith that there will be tuna in that can.
A life of faith is fundamentally opposed to comfort. It is a journey without maps.
Heb 11:1-3 The substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen. A substantial reality. Drives Action. Changes lives. Conviction. A substantial vision. Engages your mind. A course of action.

Build your way off this faith. Rom 5 justified by faith we have peace and friendship with God. The glory of God changes everything. God's act of grace makes peace with God. The substantial vision of grace changes our lives. God is asking us to move closer.

Look at Abraham. He is a good example to us. God wants to make us a blessing. He followed God. His father was supposed to go to Canaan. He stopped his journey before he got there. He was comfortable in Hiram. Then God called Abraham and he did obey. He went all the way God asked him to go to.

Take another step and follow. The next step will be even better. A bigger better vision.

God has more for you. Not just good enough but so much more.

Paul talks in Rom 14 about Abraham. The promise was to all nations. God calls into existence things that don't exist. Abraham became the father of many nations. He was fully convinced that God was going to do it. Perseverance.

70% of people who said they were Christians said their faith made no difference to their actions. James said that faith without action is dead. Lots of people believe in God but are stuck in mediocre mud.

God give me a vision to love the unlovable. Busines is no excuse. Jesus took the cross to show his love.

The bread and the wine demonstrate Jesus love

What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus!

Righteousness

Eph 6:13-18
A young boy went fishing picked up a red worm and got bitten. He cought lots of big cat fish. Each time he put new worm on his hook he got bitten.  Eventually he didn't feel so good. He died before he got to the hospital. Like Satan these baby rattle snakes gave a small bit poison each time.
Paul looked at the Roman soldier putting on his breastplate for protection. Righteousness is the important part of a Christian's armour. If you lose that you lose your life. You shall be holy God says.

Righteousness comes at amazing costs. God is holy. He can't stand sin. That's the mark to strive for. I can't do this. I need help to put us in right standing. David said purge me. I can't do it myself. God needs to wash us.
Rom 3.21, 23 the righteousness of God through faith. No matter who you are we share "for all have sinned" We all need Jesus's righteousness imputed. When God looks at us he sees Jesus righteousness. Rom 8:1 there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus.

Amazing love how can it be that you my God would die for me?

Rom 5:20-6:2 how can we who died to sin still live in it complacently. We are called to holiness. We need to walk in newness of life. Not enslaved to sin. Not playing with rattlers.

2 Cor 6:2, 7 Paul reminds us that now is the day of salvation.

God works in us to righteousness and holiness. Righteousness protects us from ourselves.

Hosaiah 10:12-13 time to seek the Lord. Time to allow holiness in us.

Our righteousness will not get us to heaven.

Are we honoring God? Nothing is more important than a right relationship to with God.
